Patients pull own teeth as dental contract falters [UK Socialized Medicine alert]

Large numbers of people are going without dental treatment and some even report extracting their own teeth because they cannot find an NHS dentist in their area, a survey reveals today.

The Dentistry Watch survey of more than 5,000 people, from the Commission for Patient and Public Involvement in Health, found widespread unhappiness among both patients and dentists despite government reforms to increase the availability of NHS dentistry. More than three-quarters of those who have a private dentist consider they were forced into it because their own dentist went private or they could not find an NHS dentist.

Just over 10% were not registered with a dentist at all. A third of those (35%) said there were no NHS dentists nearby, 22% said they did not know how to find one, 13% said they were on a waiting list and 30% said there were other reasons. But 6% of the respondents said they were self-treating, which often included pulling out their own troublesome teeth. "Fourteen teeth have had to be removed by myself using pliers," said one Lancashire respondent. "Have pulled teeth out before, easier than finding a dentist," said one in Hull. "Because I could not afford the treatment cost, I had to extract my own tooth on one occasion," said one in Harrow. "I took most of my teeth out in the shed with pliers. I have one to go," said another in Wiltshire.

Some of the respondents show considerable ingenuity. "Filled own teeth - clove oil and Polyfilla," said one in Essex. Another fixed a crown with Superglue and a third used a screwdriver to scrape off plaque.

I think that, if Hillary thinks socialized medicine is such a good idea, she should be required to get all of her medical care from Cuba for the next ten years as a test.

Coming to the US via President Hitlery Clintoon.

And with the massive tax increase that will be necessary to fund Hitlery Care, the actual final cost to taxpayers will be much higher than the current system of private insurance and health (and dental) care.

All for what will eventually become VASTLY inferior care.

That’s something I wouldn’t mind seeing: Michael Moore pulling his own teeth.

Maybe they need to take a trip to that tropical gulag and have michael moore’s dentist, lauded by the progressive set, extract those molars. I understand modern cuban dentistry utilizes a primitive type of novacaine. It’s called a ball-peen hammer.

Not to denigrate trained and experienced dentists (and doctors), but lots of dentistry (and medicine) is just glorified “technician work”: spackling, plumbing, painting prep, sewing, carving, ...

I live in a small town and my dentist took my required that a medical form be completed every year, he took my blood pressure every time I was in his office, he required my signature attesting to my meds. When it came time to complete the medical form again I said give me the old one I will sign, date it and write no changes on it. He wouldn’t go for that. He tried to tell me it was for my good—I said no it is for liability and I have no problem signing the old form and giving him his relief but I was all done filling it out every single year. My own Dr. doesn’t require that. He would not do it. I told him he offered a service, I paid the bill and I didn’t see any government involved in that contract and left. So I might be pulling my own teeth too if this is what they all do.

Support nationalized health care so you, too, can have choppers like Shane MacGowan from the Pogues.

Further along in the article it says 20% of the people not getting needed dental care reported the reason to be the cost. What happened to “free” health care?

If a PRIVATE bank raised its ATM fees ten cents, they would riot in the streets. The government treats its citizens this way and well, that’s the way it’s got to be. Shameful idiots!

Dictator-Socialist RINO Romney installs RomneyCARE-1 = HillaryCARE (without a vote, again)
to the utter delight of the Massachusetts Dems behind their little, docile RINO.

The key here is that many UK dentists are going into private practice and will not accept assignments or payment from the NHS bureaucracy. Instead of resorting to pulling their teeth with a pliers, these folks could have gone to a dentist and PAID for their own dental care. However, they were willing to resort to crude self treatment because they expect the government to give them this care free. I have little sympathy for them.

Note in the bowels of Hillary Care I there was a provision that would have made it a crime for medical practitioners to forgo government assignments and operate a totally private pay practice. I'm sure this same provision will find its way into Hillary Care Redux.
