I'll start this response to Janet Folger's Oct. 2, 2007, WorldNetDaily piece entitled "The next president of the United States" by doing what she did: Stating that I am writing this as an individual, not in the name of Alan Keyes or any organization with which I am involved.
First, the obligatory "I like Mike Huckabee; he's a nice guy." Without a doubt, his personal demeanor is mild and kindly. Wonderful traits.
But, that's not nearly enough. In this primary election process, we as Christian conservatives are elevating the leader of our movement and of our political party. More importantly, we are selecting the next president of the United States, the leader of the free world.
And, nice guy or not, Mike Huckabee showed in the Values Voter debate that he isn't the man for the job. He lacks knowledge and experience in foreign affairs and in the culture war, at a time of crisis in our history when a need for on-the-job-training is dangerous.
Under Janet Folger's direct questioning, he proved repeatedly that he, unlike most dedicated rank-and-file pro-lifers, didn't have a clue what the Mexico City Policy was and is. The Reagan policy, negotiated in large part by another man on the stage with Gov. Huckabee in Fort Lauderdale that night, Alan Keyes, keeps American taxpayer dollars from being used to fund abortions overseas.

99.9999% of U.S. citizens don't know about the Mexico City Policy, and they never will. Repeatedly using this point is weightless. Comparing Huckabee to Jimmy Carter is silly too.
While Keyes was standing down at the Mexican border, his money machine was siphoning funds from the Minutemen donors.
Alan Keyes will never be POTUS.
Neither will the nanny-statist, Open-Borders Huckabee!
Not aggressive enough.
If we as conservatives voted based on principle, experience and Republican values, I see no reason why Alan Keyes couldn’t be the POTUS. If we continue to vote for candidates based on polls, the MSM’s reporting so on and so forth we are going to end up with a pro-choice or pro-gay marriage RINO being elected. I cannot choose the lesser of 2 evils.
Which begs the question--why was this article published in the first place?
I do. You should research all information about Alan Keyes. I voted for him once. I will never do it again based on principle, experience and Republican values.
I’ve done a lot of research on Dr. Keyes and I realize he’s got some flaws. In comparison to the rest of the candidates though, he’s one of 2 that I could vote for and not feel guilty. I also like Duncan Hunter a lot.
sw
Keyes -
Maryland Senate campaign 1988 - 38% of vote, 1992, 29% of vote
US Presidential election campaign 1996 lost in primaries
US Presidential election campaign 2000 lost in primaries
Illinois Senate campaign 2004 - 27% of vote
Summation - Keyes has never won an election he has run in.
Huckabee won two four-year terms as Arkansas governor.
This is a no brainer.
All he said there was basically Mary Cheney is a sinner. I’ve never read or heard anything of him denouncing VP Cheney.
Here is an article about his own daughters homosexuality, and her claim that when she went public, her parents basically disowned her. I realize this is her side of the story, and they may have objected more to the activism than the lesbianism, so maybe I over stated my case. But he did also call Dick Cheneys daughter much worse than the “sinner” you quoted. You did, however, have more correct info than I did.
Sorry about that, I just blended the two stories in my faulty memory. Thanks for the correction.

MW: The story we’re hearing is that he disowned you, kicked you out.
MARCEL-KEYES: He cut off all financial support, but that’s something that I can totally understand. I am working for things that he’s directly opposed to. It doesn’t make much sense for him to be [financially] supporting someone who is working against what he believes in.
On a personal level, I’m not sure what’s going to happen. It’s been crazy.

Let us not forget that Huckabee directly negotiated with Vincente Fox of Mexico to bring an Mexican Consulate to Little Rock.
The difference between Huckabee and Keyes? Huckabee has run for, won, and served in elected office.
Any other questions?
I'm curious. When you say "I see no ..." are you holding one hand in front of your eyes, or both hands?
First of all, "we conservatives" are nowhere close to a majority of Americans. Second, not all "conservative values" are shared by all conservatives -- see any civil war or crevo thread for proof of that. Third, even if every conservative agreed that Keyes said all the right things, many would have doubts about his ability to handle the world's largest bureaucracy and work with 535 rowdy legislators. He doesn't have the executive experience.
