ITHACA, NY--The Ithaca Town Board voted 6-0 Monday night to express support for Gov. Eliot Spitzer's plan to allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver's licenses.
Spitzer's policy has been attacked by most state county clerks who have publicly refused to enforce the rule. Twenty-nine of them signed a resolution indicating their refusal to enforce the policy, which would go into effect Dec. 1.
Board member Pat Leary argued that illegal immigrants will drive anyway, so it's safer for the public to ensure that they are safe drivers and that they are carrying auto insurance.
Board member Peter Stein abstained from the vote, saying he didn't know enough about the issue and didn't feel comfortable voting so quickly on an issue the board had not researched.
Board member Herb Engman, who spent 25 years as director of the Cornell migrant program, argued strongly in favor of Spitzer's policy.
He said that for illegal immigrants working in rural areas, the inability to drive isolates them and confines them to their workplaces. Engman said Spitzer's policy would also reduce the number of police traffic stops for “driving while Hispanic.”
Just shocking comming from the bastion of common sense that is...Ithaca.
Just in case anybody had any question whether this licenses-for-illegals scam was all about vote fraud, the Ithica City Council removes all doubt.

I have in-laws who live in Ithaca, they own a $250k house and pay in excess of $7K a year in property taxes. Basically, they rent the house they own from the state.

Hey Pat, kids will smoke, drink and have sex, regardless of what you want. We should give them government certified cigarettes, marijuana, whiskey and sex rooms in school to make sure the public is protected from their dangerous behaviors.
Would some clever person here please take one of those pictures of people jumping off the smoldering twin towers and make a poster that says: “Spitzer wants to give drivers licenses to the people who brought you this.”
Ithaca’s been kind of quiet lately, probably because they were all busy gearing up for a new year of indoctrinating college freshmen and whatnot. But with the semester well under way the local moonbats are start to go public with their latest acts of institutionalized left wing lunacy.
They could meet them coming into town and pass out driver's licenses, food stamp cards, Medicaid cards, (maybe even "Get Out of Jail Free" cards) and pictures of Hillary Clinton.
That way they could feel all warm, fuzzy and very liberal about themselves.
I think I am seeing how liberals in large groups are self-destructive. All their shenanigans come back on them but when that happens they blame conservatives for it.

The snot-nosed elite at Cornell only see the gardeners and food servers at the college and want to do right by them. Hey punks! Try living in the real world with them, illegals, that is. You will find they don’t give a damn about any laws including the ones they broke getting here.
Unfortunately, a lot of us also knew it all at age 18. Ah but I was so much older then, I’m younger than that now.
Maybe Larry David could adopt an illegal family next. Tell many plots of them cranking out fake id’s in the back of his house, thinking up social security numbers, etc.
Larry could find humor in the real life situation my friend had last night. She needed to go to the emergency room and had to wait 5 hours while the “undocumented american” (Harry Reid) droves got free medical treatment.
And those who don’t pass the license test or don’t want to buy insurance or buy insurance and cancel after doing the paperwork will still be on the road.
But they won’t be able to vote. So figure out something else, sphitler.
