Senate Republicans roasted the state's motor-vehicles commissioner for nearly four hours during a hearing on Gov. Spitzer's controversial proposal to allow illegal aliens to get driver's licenses........Republicans warned they could block the move by withholding funding next year when the second phase is to be implemented. "We will not be idle when we see our state's security in jeopardy......." said Sen. Vincent Leibell.........

ITEM A patriot defending America protested NY Gov. Spitzer's plan to issue drivers' licenses to illegal aliens, was strong-armed, and unceremoniously shoved by a member of the governor's detail at the Columbus Day parade.

The vast majority of the liberals are downstate but on the license issue for once everyone seems to agree that it's a bad idea.

I don’t know a lot about New York state politics (like who else the Post might have endorsed) but did you see the link in this Post article to a poll that pits Spitzer against Bloomberg? It’s here: http://www.nypost.com/seven/10162007/news/regionalnews/gov__bloomy_kos_eliot__poll.htm

Bottom line: Statewide, Bloomberg would defeat Spitzer, 50 percent to 37 percent, according to the poll.

Is there really no one else to choose from in that state?!!

He said the program will lead to safer streets by cutting down on unlicensed drivers, who are more apt to be involved in accidents.

Oh yeah. The minute they get the license they stop having accidents.

Could it be for some OTHER reason they have so many accidents.....'cause I'm not buying the line that having a license prevents wrecks.
