MADISON, N.J. Public uproar that compared an image to a lynching has led a Madison family to remove a hanged dummy from its Halloween display.
Cheryl and David Maines fear for their safety.
The couple's 27-year-old son has decorated their home for seven Halloweens. The hanged dummy, which has a black hood, is usually partially hidden.
But police started getting calls on Sunday, saying the display was racist. The state chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People said it was offensive and insensitive.

I figured it wasn’t a “local” chapter of the NAACP . . . Madison is one of the whitest towns in New Jersey.
Born Agains don't like Halloween as "Satan's Birthday" etc but I have never heard of them demanding private Halloween displays be taken down.
This is all being done for November 2008, pure and simple.
More evidence this country is going to hell.
Slightly off topic but, what I find ironic is that if a caucasian (white guy) refers to a black man / African-American (pick the titel) as a "colored" person, Jesse and Al would go bonkers saying that the word "colored" is racist.
For years, I've said that the NAACP should have changed its moniker.
I'm confused.
If people were to unclench, jesse, al and the rest of them would be out of business.
No hollowed out empty pumpkin heads either. That would offend Liberals.

I saw the other day that a family had hanged a witch effigy and — you guessed it — a local woman who claimed to be a witch took offense.
now rope~neuses are “un-politically correct”; Get a life you liberals; and fradie-cats; and SHOVE it!
‘Colored people’ is evil and insensitive, but ‘People of color’ is
the only phrase decent, sensitive people use, of course. (And yes, there are actually sites at which the mostly white members are so sunk in PC idiocy that they actually refer to themselves and all white people as “people without color”. I’m not making this up. I couldn’t make up something that inane and asinine-not enough imagination.)
The “klan with a tan” and noose, the new “N” word. I doubt cattle thieves would have thought the noose to be racist. After all, most rustlers were white.
And what if the dummy was white ....?????
National Association for the Advancement of Colored People
colored people??? Aren't they african americans??? Maybe they should be worried about the "colored people" thing.
Basicly, if you can claim special status you could also claim a bank offended you by not giving you money, and the bank would have to offer you $500,000.00 just to settle.
This nation is seriously screwed, and it’s getting worse by the day.
There was a time when you could call this the land of the free and the home of the brave. Now you should call it the land of the special interests and the home of the afraid to leave the inside of your own home.
We have given way too much power to those who have shown the determination to abuse that power. And now we’re reaping th whirlwind.
Either we turn some of this stuff around, or we pack it in.

Every time I hear something like this I think, my God, it can't get any worse and lo and behold, the next day it does. As long as there are liberals alive we will not be able to turn any of this around,,,I often wonder how much more ridiculous it can get and I'm always surprised to learn it CAN get more ridiculous. My grandparents are rolling over in their graves, that generation would NEVER have tolerated this kind of BS. They would have told the clown that complained to go to hell! AND they would have hung up another hanging dummy,,,,,and,,,if the complainer was stooooooooooopid enough to hang around,,,,well, the next hanging dummy would be that person!
A friend gave us an elaborate miniature Halloween display they had made themselves. It was wonderful, except for the little hanging man, which we removed. I didn't want my 3 year-old son, who is fascinated by ropes, to either try to imitate it or to be frightened by what it represents.
