Boston, MA Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced that retired Major General James "Spider" Marks will join Romney for President as a Senior Adviser for National Security Affairs. General Marks will advise Governor Romney on issues pertaining to national security, the United States military and foreign policy.
"General Marks brings more than three decades of valuable experience to our campaign. A highly decorated officer, he is intricately familiar with the needs of our military and intelligence communities as well as the families who support these patriots. I look forward to working with him as we expand our blueprint to strengthen the military and our country's national defense," said Governor Romney. "A stronger America means a stronger military. We need to re-invest in our Armed Forces by adding at least 100,000 more Soldiers and dedicating at least four percent of our GDP to national defense. We must always honor our nation's commitment to the men and women of our military."
Governor Romney has outlined a strong strategy to strengthen our military and intelligence communities. In April 2007, Governor Romney proposed adding at least 100,000 more troops to our Armed Forces and committing at least four percent of our gross domestic product to our national defense. This will help provide the resources needed for equipment, modernization, training, treatment and care of our wounded Soldiers. As President, Governor Romney will also create the Special Partnership Force to unite our civilian, intelligence and military efforts and partner with our allies to defeat jihadists in the unstable areas where they thrive.
Joining Romney for President, General Marks said, "Governor Romney has been outspoken in his commitment to our men and women in the military. Our troops need more support from Washington and Governor Romney will ensure that they have the resources they need to defend this country. I am proud to be joining Governor Romney's campaign. On national security issues, the Governor has distinguished himself as a true leader ready to invest in our national defense."

mitt has front line experience. he was governor of Massachusetts...
Go back to Moveon. General Marks—worked—his way up as a company commander, 1st Battalion, 503d Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, i.e., Air Assault. He is an honor graduate from Ranger School, highly talented and highly motivated.
He has also been a voice of reason when I have seen him as a military advisor on one of the cable stations — either MSNBC or CNN. He is clear, straight talker, and I always enjoyed watching him discuss the military situation in Iraq and the overall WOT.

He must have gone out into the woods to some secluded grove and prayed about it. Got some sort of a “titty-twister” sensation in his “bosom” and decided Mitt was the man.
9-11 was the day that the change of command ceremony was scheduled.....here is his description of that morning when he assumed command

a snip:
The change-of-command ceremony with Major General Thomas took place at 0800 on Brown Parade Field. Earlier in the morning, I was in the guesthouse and, like every soldier, was polishing my boots and squaring away my uniform when my daughter called me to the television. My jaw nearly hit the floor. The top floors of one of the World Trade Center buildings was a mass of black smoke and flame. The initial reports were somewhat confusing. An aircraft, believed to be a passenger jet, had apparently slammed into the building. It was a clear, bright morning in New York and I wrestled to grasp how such a collision could occur. I could only think this was no accident. This was a deliberate attack, but even while thinking through the possibilities, I followed the flight of the second jet through completion of its own horrible journey. There were no doubts now, our country was under attack. Listening to the news of the Pentagon attack and the crash of yet another passenger jet in Pennsylvania, I quickly finished dressing. As I walked toward Brown Parade Field with my wife Marty and our youngest daughter Claire, I reflected for a moment how my father and his generation had absorbed the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor some sixty years before.

When did Free Republic become a place to bash distinguished career military officers???
I agree with you...While I’m not by any means Romney’s biggest supporter, this is a good move and a solid addition to his campaign.
whether or not you are for Romney that was a ridiculous post
For what, 2 and a half years? The last year he spent in office he was busy prepping for the WH. Mitt used Boston as his own personal foot stool.
Around the time it began bashing principled constitutionalists who is running on the exact same foreign policy Bush did in 2000.
"I'd rather have the guy who is going to put that IED in place get killed long before he's even part of the network. And I don't want him to know how I found him out because I want to find out where all his buddies are and kill them too." http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/08/13/cied.jamming.tech/
I’m just saying...most of the other candidates have zero experience governing and then there is rudy who has more important problems
It's called RDS, Romney Derangement Syndrome. When it kicks in otherwise decent FReepers go and make buffoons of themselves.
