Texas Gov. Rick Perry Will Endorse Giuliani
The Atlantic ^ | 10-17-07

Gov. Rick Perry (R-TX) plans to endorse Rudy Giuliani at an early morning news conference, Giuliani campaign advisers confirmed.

Perry, who succeeded George W. Bush as governor, would be the first sitting governor to endorse Giuliani. He brings added cachet as a Southerner and a social conservative, although he is not uniformly well-regarded by conservative elites in Washington.

He may -- or may not be -- a vice presidential prospect. He is in the party's center on immigration, and has clashed, at times, with various wings of the Texas Republican Party. Giuliani's finance team is top-heavy with Texas Republicans, and the Perry and Giuliani circles intersect.

A person who answered the phone in Perry's press office two hours ago referred all comment to Perry's press secretary, Robert Black, who did not immediately return a message. Perry was re-elected in 2006 with 39% percent of the vote in a three-way race.

He is said to be a candidate for the chairman's spot at the Republican Governors Association. Update: seems like the Right of Texas blog got there before I did.

In Texas this endorsement is likely to help all the other Republicans.

Amen to that.

“Perry was re-elected in 2006 with 39% percent of the vote in a three-way race.”

I remember tangling with Kinky supporters back in 2006; Kinky seemed disrespectful and mocking of the Governor’s office and Perry seemed like the lesser of the evils, so I took Perry’s side.

I’ll have to confess, Mr. Ricky has been a huge disappointment on pretty much every issue. Nice hair, though.

Wasn’t Rick Perry the lead singer of “Journey”? If so, that will help.

That would make a great campaign slogan:

“Vote for Rick Perry. He’s not the guy from Journey.”

Merck's endorsement to follow.

RP is not a social conservative, not after is executive order to vaccinate middle school girls against cervical cancer.

He's a nanny-statist, just like Rudy and the rest of them.

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry this morning endorsed former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani for president, saying on Fox News that he would campaign for the man he believes is best-suited to lead America during “probably one of the most important times in our history with a war on terror going on.”

“For the last six months, I have cogitated, I’ve looked, I’ve studied these candidates — some of them I know very well — and came to the conclusion that the individual who can lead America with clarity, the individual who has the experience, the individual who cleaned up a city that was absolutely on its back is mayor Rudy Giuliani,” Perry said.

“I’m proudly and excitedly going to campaign for him and work for him,” Perry said, appearing on Fox & Friends for what was touted by the news channel as a “humongous Texas-sized announcement.”

Are they not both tied into the Trans-Texas Corridor scheme ?

Perry rammed the plan through and Rudy’s law firm is representing one of the interests in the deal ?

Makes sense why Perry would endorse Rudy , if that is indeed the case .

This makes Rudy very suspect in my eyes. Perry is a tremendous sell out to Republicans on illegal immigration. His gestapo tactics used to arrest law abiding citizens who drink in bars was sick. Rudy drops a notch.

I knew there was another reason I didn't like Perry.

That would be an understatement.

Perry isn't going anywhere nationally (who in the hell would be stupid enough to pick somebody that can't even carry 40% of the state in the last election?), but I have to agree with the others - the man does have nice hair.

This is correct - Perry has been pushing all kinds of transportation schemes on Texans, and Giuliani's law firm has had their hand in some of the deals...

Goodhair was elected with 39% of the GOVERNORS vote, probably closer to 35% or less of the total vote. Many voters, such as my wife, chose ‘none of the above’ due to the sorry choices we had. Unfortunately Texas does not have a runoff or Perry would have been placed in the unemployed lines.

Yes I voted for Kinky and given the choices, I would do it again. It was a vote against Perry...

You pretty much summed up my reasons for voting for Perry. My nose is still bruised from the industrial strength clothespin that was on my nose when I voted.

Fred's looking better to me each day.
