Its the middle of October and Rudy Giuliani is still leading the race for the Republican nomination. His old enemies in New York cant understand it.
Its totally unbelievable, said Charles Rangel, the dean of the New York Congressional delegation and a longtime adversary of Mr. Giuliani. I refuse to believe that this could possibly happen to our country. I have too much confidence in our country to believe that this could really happen.
All presidential candidates have some element of hometown oppositionconstituents angry about a factory closing, politicians spiteful about losing a bill or an election. But no candidate engenders as much local animus as Mr. Giuliani, whose terms as mayor were characterized by a series of spectacular running battles with various, mostly liberal constituencies.
For the first months of his candidacy for president, prominent progressives in New York mocked the notion that a pro-choice, immigration-friendly serial husband with a history of opposition to guns would have a shot at the Republican nomination.
But now, with Mr. Giuliani up nearly 10 percentage points in national polls and unexpectedly competitive in the early primary states of New Hampshire and South Carolina, a mixture of nervousness and disbelief is running through the ranks of his old antagonists.
Norman Siegel, who served as the director of the New York Civil Liberties Union during Mr. Giulianis tenure as mayor, said, Ive been saying to people in New York, especially the liberal community that Im proud to be part of, that unless the truth is revealed about the real Rudy, he could win, and not just the Republican nomination, but the presidency as well. Most people in New York look at me, and they say no way. They say it cant happen. The political leadership in New York is underestimating him."

Leave it to Charles Rangel to express an opinion with such elegance.
Speaking of lack of elegance, did any happen to read the Vanity Fair piece on Rudy’s wife Judy? They painted her as a real shrew.

I’m no Rudy fan. But words like this from a joker who can turn around and support the utter vermin running under the Democrat banner — that’s just disingenuous.
You could see the NY Trifecta - Her Thighness, Rudy, and Bloomberg as a 3rd Party Candidate.
RUDY! RUDY! RUDY! BELIEVE!
Sometimes you can judge a man by the enemies he keeps.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Hillary?
You can’t be serious.
Believe what? That he’s anti-gun, pro-homo, late term abortionist that lived with two homos that he kissed every morning (his own admission, BTW) and he has a twit for a wife?
Forget about it.
They hated Rudy looooooong before Mrs. Bill became their senator.
Not to worry. If he’s nominated the base will stay home and Hillary will be a shoo in. If Rudy somehow captures the uncommitted voters and enough folks hate Hllary and he’s elected then he’ll be another Ahnold anyway. Either way, Libs win.
Well, yes, that would apply to Hill as well but the article launched a pretty strong attack on Judy.
NOTE: Charlie Rangle is depending on groups like FreeRepublic to take Rudy down and win the election for Hillary. Just like 1992 and Bill’s 42 % “mandate”. And many here have been working overtime to please.
Anybody remember Ronald Reagan’s 11th commandment ?
We all have things about Rudy we don’t like.
But, he is the one candidate that I am certain will not take any sh*t from the Democrats and their enablers in the media...not to mention, from our enemies.
The average shrew has more class than Jooty.
There is NO OTHER Candidate on either side that will fight the war on terror as effectively as Rudi would...
Since Rudy's not a Republican, that doesn't apply here.
You mean the Ronald Reagan who ran against a sitting Republican president for the GOP nomination in 1976 because the president was a liberal?
I am sick of the media trying to paint public servants w/ track records like Rudy as hopeless losers.... this is pure propaganda, jealous rage and hateful tactics at work. If America buys it the dumbing down has been completed.
So let me see... Guliani’s enemies are:
THe NYCLU, Ed Koch, Charles Rangel etc etc etc...
But.. Rudy’s a “Liberal”.. how can that be?
