The current rent in One Dollar per year!

I am not sure the Scouts need to be 200k a year but One Dollar is ridiculous. The Scouts do not need to be receiving Welfare from the city. Raise the rent.

You’re right - no private organization should be given government property rent-free, no matter what their views are. (Of course, now I’m wondering how many Democrat-leaning organizations are enjoying city property rent-free.)

Why does a government entity own a building with rental space? Could they actually get 200k for that space on the open market? If so, they should sell the building to a private owner for many times that yearly rental and also collect property taxes on it. The city has no business being a landlord.

Right.

That’s because the city and the community aren’t really getting any value out of the Boy Scouts.

Absolutely. We should raise the rent on these deadbeats as soon as possible. That’s about 2,500 Boy Scouts per year that would have been ‘scholarshipped’ into a Troop, but the city DEFINITELY needs that money more.

Lord knows, in Philly, there is no need for a program like this otherwise screwing up perfectly good boys from broken homes.

Throw’em out on the street.

The Scouts built the building, then donated it to the City. That is the value exchanged — the property, especially in that location, is worth many millions. In addition, they pay various other licensing and utility fees.

re # %

I believe that this should have been given some consideration the amount of rent was decided upon.

The land belongs to the City of Philadelphia but has been leased since 1928 for that token sum to the scouts, who built the landmark Beaux Arts building.

But then fairness is out of the question these days, when homos are in the picture. Obviously it wasn't -- and never will be, when queers are in the picture.

Then who pays the rent?

You want the parents to pay the government MORE money for an organization that helps children? Should the scouts, in order to pay the higher rent, charge little old ladies for helping them cross a street?

The Scouting movement is designed to foster better-educated, moral children. Of course, the big-government types and the sodomites can't stand the thought. One wants to make money, the other wants to.........you get the point.
