Was that before or after he consulted the attorneys??
And on what date did he write and offer the constitutional amendment for the state.
“* Nov. 18, 2003 Romney responds to SJC ruling with four-sentence statement implicitly recognizing SJCs authority, says only remedy will be a constitutional amendment: I disagree with the Supreme Judicial Court. Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I will support an amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution to make that expressly clear. Of course, we must provide basic civil rights and appropriate benefits to nontraditional couples, but marriage is a special institution that should be reserved for a man and a woman.
Good point Bob. It’s good to see actual facts as apposed to baseless charges. Given Romney’s record, anyone charging him with carrying a pro gay rights agenda looses all credibility with me. It would better for the conservative cause if Republicans making a charge against a Republican candidate to show reasonable evidence to substantiate the charge. The mud throwing weakens our chances as a group to win elections. It develops animosity and unproductive suspicion within the party. It may be fun for the mud thrower, but it turns off support one of our candidates will need if we are to win in the general election.
Bobkk4 — there is no convincing those afflicted with RDS - Romney Derangement Syndrome. Their hate cannot be squelched, just as those afflicted with Bush Derangement Syndrome cannot see reason.
They are so filled with hate and derision, they are blind.
As a rock-ribbed conservative, I haven’t come to a definite conclusion for the ‘08 GOP nominee. But I certainly think Romney is a top choice and as conservative as he could be in a state such as Mass.
If Hunter or Thompson were to win, I would be happy also. But I am certainly willing to give Romney a chance.
