It is not a false statement. If Romney were to stand up in a mormon church and say, “I believe Jesus Christ was God Himself” he would be excommunicated.

Aren’t you listening and reading.
***The article splits into 2 reasons, and one of those supposed reasons is a dead giveaway that the man believes in a cult. What he believes is flat unbiblical. It is a heretical religion.

He believes that Jesus Christ is Divine. Let it go. And let’s let go of the theological technicalities and dwell on politics and morality.
***Why do I need to let go of it when it is one of only 2 points that the author proceeds from? The deity of Christ is a “theological technicality”? Baloney. It is the central aspect to all of christianity, dividing heretics & agnostics & charlatans from true believers.

It is important for one’s faith, but it is a technicality for choosing a president.
If it is so important, please tell me how the choice between Ebionism, Docetism, Arianism, Nestorianism, Eutychianism, Appolinarianism and the Nicean Creed impact on the coming election. If it so important, I need to know.

All faithful Latter Day Saints believe Jesus is Divine. We believe His is the only name by which we can be saved. We except what the Bible has to say about Christ, but feel that the creeds diverged from that truth on some points. It is true that the LDS (Mormon) faith rejects the belief that Jesus is the same person as God the Father. But to say the LDS position is that Jesus is not divine is incorrect. I doubt my correction will persuade Kevmo. To bad, but for those who know little about LDS beliefs, I hope you will reject his false charge.

Kevmo, you could not be more wrong about Latter-day Saint beliefs regarding the divinity of Jesus Christ. The title page of the Book Mormon expressly states that its purpose is “to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself to all nations.” If Mitt were to stand in a Mormon meeting and state that he believes that “Jesus Christ was God Himself”, he would merely be stating a central point of Mormon doctrine and he would receive a hearty amen.

If Romney were to stand up in a mormon church and say, “I believe Jesus Christ was God Himself” he would be excommunicated.

Not true.

From "The Living Christ: The Testimony of the Apostles":

"As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago, we offer our testimony of the reality of His matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.

"He was the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament, the Messiah of the New. Under the direction of His Father, He was the creator of the earth. 'All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made' (John 1:3).

From Ezra Taft Benson (former president of the church):

He lives today! Of that I bear solemn witness. This same Jesus has already come to earth in our day. The resurrected Christ—glorified, exalted, the God of this world under the Father—appeared to the boy Joseph Smith, Jr., in 1820. This same Jesus, who was the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of Moses, the Creator of this earth, has come in our day. He was introduced by our Heavenly Father to Joseph Smith with these words: “This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!”

From Bruce R. McKonkie (Apostle):

Jesus, See -->CHRIST, -->JESUS OF NAZARETH.

Taken from the Hebrew Yeshua, Jesus is a masculine personal name meaning Jehovah is salvation or deliverance; and accordingly, with supreme propriety, it was chosen and revealed as the personal name of our Lord. (Luke 1:31.) This name — also found as Jeshua, Joshua, and Jehoshua — apparently was a common one among the ancient Jews. Variants of the name include Hosea, Hoshea, and Oshea — all meaning deliverance.

Though it was a common name anciently, its use by the Lord God Omnipotent as his personal name has given it a sacred connotation for all succeeding generations. (Acts 2:36.) Accordingly its profane and repetitious use is not in keeping with the true spirit of reverence and worship.

Also from Bruce R. McKonkie:

And now, as pertaining to this perfect atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God—I testify that it took place in Gethsemane and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God and was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person.

I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears.

But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way.

A quick search on the LDS.org website would have revealed this and much more information regarding our views on Jesus. If you're going to criticize, at least have a basic idea of what we actually believe.

The diety of christ is not a moral issue, it is a theological one.

The jews do not believe in the diety of Jesus, but they have a biblical moral code. I believe they can’t live up to it and therefore are doomed without Jesus. SOME christians (like apparently Jerry Falwell) believe that jews CAN get to heaven.

But that’s a theological question, not a moral one.

Mormons also generally follow the same biblical moral code.
