WASHINGTON (AP) — Liberal Al Franken is good enough and smart enough to win some of conservative Ben Stein's money — and doggone it, Stein likes him.

Stein, an actor, writer and economist, has contributed $2,000 to Franken's Minnesota Senate campaign. The two men have known each other for about 30 years.

"I'm struck by what an incredibly capable, hard-working guy he is," Stein told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Thursday. "He's a very smart liberal, he's a thoroughgoing patriot, and I would feel better with him in the Senate."

I could see him endorsing a serious statesmanlike Dim who is a 30 year friend, but, Franken????

Good grief.

Ben, I’ve respected your intelligence and incite for years. However, you just “jumped the shark” with that comment. WTF are you thinking? Franken is a hardcore socialist. He is exactly the type of person we don’t need in Congress...

Ever since Ben Stein has gone to work for the NYTimes about a year ago, he has turned very liberal. He has jumped the shark. I used to like him. Not much now.

Ben Stein is fiscal conservative. He has no place in today’s Republican Party.

That S.O.B. has polluted our culture and run down our leaders for 30 years.

Anyone who sides with him is a moron- or something more sinister.

Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Mr “Nixon Republican”.

Franken told Stein that if he didn’t contribute, he’d follow ben to New Hampshire and tackle him in front of Howard Dean.

Franken must have some dirt on Stein.

This is disgusting.

How anyone could support this fool for public office completely escapes me.

Sorry, Ben.
You’ve lost a lot of fans.

Your betraying the troops you so much support with this endorsement.

Ben lost me when I saw him on Fox News advocating for Federal tax increases last year. This is just icing on the cake. Buh bye, Ben.

I hereby decree Ben Stein to be Officially Written Off.

It’s one thing to write a check to your old comedy-showbiz friend EVEN THOUGH he’s 170 degrees off to your left. “I’ll help you a little here, but you know we disagree on policy, old buddy.”

It’s quite another to abandon your principles like this.

Goodbye, Ben Stein. It was fun while you were conservative.

Gag, I didn’t know he was working for the NYT these days. That explains some of the things he has written in the past few months.

Tossing 2k to a longtime friend is one thing, but I wonder who BS would vote for in 2008 if he lived in Minnesota?
