AN explosion apparently caused by a fuel tank ripped through an upmarket shopping mall in the main Philippine financial district of Makati in the capital Manila today.

Panicked shoppers ran out of the Glorietta mall as smoke billowed out of the building and police rushed in to investigate, witnesses said.

"Our initial report is that it was an accidental explosion of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). We are still trying to determine if there are any casualties,''.

The local news here is saying three dead, about 30 injured. They are saying LPG is not the cause, but no answer to what is the cause. I’d stay away from the area for a few days because, if it’s a terrorist or communist assualt, they sometimes try a folow-up attack.

As a matter of fact that is where I am staying. First time at that hotel. I got an amazing rate from via my company. Cheaper than a 3 star hotel in Munich.

My thrilled wife isn’t joining me. I don’t think she would mind if we died together. It was being left alone that was the issue. I guess that is a sign that she actually likes me because I have a decent life-insurance policy.

LOL. Your wife loves you. Good for you on the rate.

Not the greatest security, but all the mall entrances have security guards who check everyone going inside. The same applies at the hotel. I was there in August. Nice hotel. Stayed in the “new wing” side. New part of the hotel.

Head back for Christmas and than to Baracy.

Have a safe trip and enjoy the short flight from the states. LOL.

Probably staying at the Peninsula?

I went there for work a few years ago and left a day early because there were heightened alerts for American kidnappings (truth told, I wanted to leave the day after I got there).

About a week after I got home my wife saw on the news that there were 20+ rogue Army officers who took hostages at the Glorieta mall.

But since you're going to be there anyway, tell the guy across the street from the Pensinsula that I still don't want to buy a @#$%^&* Rolex and he can still get the @#$%^ away from me. (I was warned not to bring any unwanted attention to myself on the street, and this guy asked me everyday for 2 weeks to buy a Rolex. Everyday I politely told him no thanks, but the last day I was there I let him have it big time. He was a greasy, arrogant little dude, and he thought he had me figured out. I scared the crap out of him when I let him have it. Good times. :)
