Park ranger gets seven years for fatal shooting

A former ranger at Elephant Butte State Park will spend a year on electronic monitoring for fatally shooting a man who refused to pay his permit fee.

District Attorney Scot Key says that Clyde Woods was sentenced Wednesday in state district court in Truth or Consequences to six years for voluntary manslaughter and given a seventh year for because of a firearm enhancement.

Key says, though, that all but one year was suspended. Woods will spend the remaining year under house arrest with an ankle bracelet and GPS locator.

Woods was charged with shooting Bruce Teschner on the evening of August 23, 2005, at a camp area at Elephant Butte State Park when Teschner refused to pay his camping fee.

No weapons were found on Teschner. Teschner’s family says that he was shot in the back.

It wouldn’t surprise me if Woods’ lawyer appeals this sentence as being too harsh. Lon Horiuchi shot an unarmed woman off her own porch and he got promoted for it. This ranger probably feels he deserves at least some sort of special commendation, along with complete dismissal of any charges.

Fabulous.

Mean while, two boarder guards go to jail for ten years for shooting a drug dealer in the ass. Isn't American justice something to be proud of?

Court: "Let that be a lesson to you, pal!"

It’s stories like this that really rile me. I used to be gung ho for our law enforcement and still have a soft spot for them but when we give guns to Rangers, fish and game officers and petty @$$ holes like that, it gets to be too much. I’ve since met quite a few Law enforcement people with “attitudes” , and when they put that gun on their side, they think they are a god. It’s getting so that harbor patrol, mall dicks and anyone except you and me get to wear a gun and “be somebody”. The only thing more dangerous than that in my opinion is an idiot judge with a black cloak.

But how many ‘patriots’ are demanding a continuation of Bill Clinton’s expansionary federal control over our national environment? And how many WSJ rinos want to hand it over to the big corporate interests?

Okay, I'm not the smartest one here, but shouldn't the headline read "Park ranger doesn't get seven years for fatal shooting"?

Thanks for finding and posting that.

"He also told the court that a more thorough psychological evaluation before Woods was admitted to the police academy might have found him an unsuitable candidate for law enforcement."

Really?

Welcome to Amerika.

It used to be government of the people, for the people, and by the people.

Now it’s government against the people, opposed to the people, and basically hates the people.

I’d guess 90% of all gun-toting cops view the people... the citizens... with disgust, like we’re some lower form of life.

How is that any different than Russia?

Um, that's a city?

Sort of.

It used to be known as "Hot Springs" until it fell victim to the television culture and met a challenge to rename itself after a TV game show in the 1960's.
