LA Times ^ | 9:35 AM PDT, October 21, 2007 | Associated Press

UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.

A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

Thank you so much for all your contributions here.

I lifted some info from what you posted last night, Vasquez Bridge completely destroyed at Bouquet Canyon.

While watching KTLA coverage this morning, Eric Spillman was doing interviews in Saugus and spoke to a man who couldn’t get to his ranch because the bridge is down.

It puts a human face on it...

I'm watching the live stream from ch39 and have cell phone connectivity to all the family in San Diego. They have the "bug out" packs ready to go and a safe destination. The fire fighters are stretched very thin with the volume of fires burning.

Winds expected to be a problem through Wednesday per current reporting.

Fire expected to cross into Otay Lakes area and burn into eastern part of Chula Vista per the current report. Fire officials think the Witch fire may burn all the way to the coast.

The ignorance and the willingness to “share” it are just astounding.

Have a good day at work... and I hope I believe correctly that the fires are staying far away from you? Perhaps the closest in Irvine...

the tankers cant fly in those winds....

the superscoopers will because they are Canadian and are bound by LA County rules, not the State or Federal rules.

I am 5 miles south of West Hollywood... approximately.

KTLA reports high wind danger throughout SoCal today, possibly diminishing but not dissipating at nightfall. Danger continues through 3:00 p.m. Tuesday.

We very much appreciate your concern. I am not in a danger area, but many FReepers are, many innocent people and animals. God bless all the firefighters!!
