LA Times ^ | 9:35 AM PDT, October 21, 2007 | Associated Press

UPDATE: The city of Malibu is advising residents in Puerco Canyon to begin evacuating due to a wildfire driven by powerful winds. This area is north of Pacific Coast Highway and about 1 mile west of Pepperdine University. Residents along the beach on Malibu Road may soon be evacuated. Pacific Coast Highway is closed between Kanan-Dume Road and Topanga Canyon. Residents are advised to head to the west. Evacuation centers are being set up in the Zuma Beach area.

A wildfire driven by powerful winds in the Malibu Hills this morning threatened a university, destroyed at least one home and forced the evacuation of hundreds more, authorities said.

County dude let it slip it might be a week before Ramona water is restored. The KOGO host couldnt believe him.

County says Ramona unsafe for residents
Posted @ 3:33 PM
County officials say that many Ramona residents have reentered Ramona even though the area is under a mandatory evacuation order. Ramona is currently unsafe for residents.

Citizens are being advised the water system is completely down.
There is no reliable estimate as to when the Ramona Water District will have the system online.

No water creates a public safety risk by leaving firefighters unable to fight possible fires. The lack of water also creates a public health risk for those on the water district’s system, the county said.

The county said there is a current “No Drink” order on the Ramona Municipal Water District.

If you are currently in Ramona, do not use the Ramona Water District system for any reason. The district is in the process of restoring water. Any use of the system may result in further damage that could result in longer delays to reentry.

The Ramona Water District has requested mutual aid to garner additional resources to help with system restoration. Simultaneously, they are working on an alternative water plan that would meet safety and health requirements to allow residents to return to their homes.

For those who’ve been following the discussions of after-fire dangers,

Here’s a really good discussion on how to do fire ash cleanup.

“I think they did shoot some looters in SD...”

Tragic, eh?

Off Topic but funny,

I was witnessing an attempted beggary at 3:00 am, called Milwaukee PD and they swooped in without lights or sirens. Bad guys bolted and left their stolen car sitting on the street.

Two weeks later they bring one guy over for my ID. “Yep, that’s him, where’s the other one.

Detective - “He’s at County with a drug OD.

Me - “That’s awful!” (sarcasm)

Detective - “Ya, f*cking tragic, eh?” (very sarcastic)

4 bodies found in East County
Posted @ 3:59 PM
Four badly burned bodies have been found in a burned out rocky canyon near state Route 94 and Highway 188 just west of Potrero.
Law enforcement officials are at the scene and are trying to figure out the logistics of how to get down a very steep canyon wall.
The bodies are about 75 to 100 yards down into a deep canyon. Three of the bodies are in the canyon and one is one the opposite canyon slope.

One thing communities in high brush areas can do is make a pact to clean out their neighborhoods, even if they do have some stupid law out on cutting down dead trees. I’d rather be fined for sawing off a dead tree than watch my house burn down!

Authorities say four charred bodies have been found in what is believed to be a migrant camp just east of San Diego. That brings the death toll from the California fire storm to at least nine.

just got this from KREM News in Spokane, Washington.
