Wednesday Cloture Vote Set For DREAM Act Amnesty Bill (October 23) Last night, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) filed to invoke cloture on S. 2205, Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin’s (D-Ill.) new stand-alone DREAM Act amnesty bill. The cloture vote, for which 60 YES votes are necessary to prevent a filibuster on the measure, is set for Wednesday, October 24. Reid is attempting to bring this nightmarish amnesty bill to the floor under Senate Rule XIV without it ever having been debated in committee... Click here for more background on the DREAM Act.

It is imperative that NumbersUSA members call their senators today to ask them to vote NO on cloture for S. 2205.

Call your senators today to ask them to oppose the DREAM Act: 202-224-3121.

Hatch has to be called again and again. He says he's against amnesty, but this is his baby.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, initiated the idea for the bill five years ago, and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., has renewed efforts to get it through Congress.

...

Hatch insisted that the bill "is not amnesty," because for those who meet the initial criteria, it would still take years to reach full citizenship.

I agree Hatch needs to be called. The bill is amnesty. It is a perverted bill providing perks for those who break our laws. It is a slap in the face for those who obey the laws.

Reid reviving ‘amnesty’ for illegals
‘DREAM’ grant of legality to millions on fast track for vote tomorrow

Just a few months after intense pressure from U.S. citizens triggered the rejection of President Bush’s comprehensive immigration plan, a compromise supported by Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass. – the DREAM Act proposal by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. – is being rushed through the Senate.
Durbin’s office refused to return a WND call requesting comment.

Shamnesty alert: Dems prepare to ram DREAM Act through with cloture vote; Update: Where do your Senators stand?
Via USA Today, it looks like Dick Durbin is worried about senators showing up for the vote: “Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., the legislation’s chief sponsor, said Tuesday that his biggest challenge was ensuring that supporters, including five senators — four Democrats and one Republican — running for president, make it to the Capitol for the roll call.
Durbin needs 60 votes to allow the bill to be debated. Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said the DREAM Act amounts to a ‘ratification of illegality’ and could provide an incentive for more illegal immigration. ”

In anticipation of today’s cloture vote, DREAM Act supporters have been telling people that the measure would give amnesty to only 60,000 illegal aliens a year; see this, for instance, from the Daily Kos. But even their own think tank disagrees — the Migration Policy Institute has estimated that 360,000 illegals would get amnesty right away, with another 715,000 benefiting in the future, for a total of over 1 million amnestied. Using a different data source, we looked at the same question and estimated that the total number of potential beneficiaries of the amnesty is 2.1 million. What’s more, there are another 1.4 million parents and young siblings of the under-18 amnesty recipients who do not themselves qualify for the amnesty, but whom the government is likely to let stay once their family members get legalized.

If Republicans had brains, they would put attrition through enforcement first and Just Say No to any new illegal alien magnets.

Noam Askew has a list of possible fence-sitters. You’ll notice a lot of open-borders Republicans on that list.
Sen. Cornyn (R-Texas) sent his statement this evening. Kind of wishy-washy, but at least he comes down on the right side
Durbin-Hagel-Lugar DREAM Act Briefing: Tuesday, October 23rd at 3PM in SC-6
Senators Durbin, Hagel and Lugar invite you to a staff briefing on S. 2205, the DREAM Act. A cloture vote on the motion to proceed to the DREAM Act will take place this Wednesday morning (tomorrow).
They’ve moved from health care kiddie human shields to illegal alien youth human shields.

Wow. What perfect timing. Nobody paying attention to this vote because of the California fires. The democrats are nasty!!!!

Boxer and Feinstein, I am sure are paying attention to the fires in their state. They will probably pay more attention, AFTER THE VOTE. Jorge will be wingin it out that way pretty soon. Can't be upstaged by Jorge. There could be suitcase bombs going off, and these treasonous libs wouldn't call off a vote like this. Bring to much attention to it.

“What is less well known about the DREAM Act is that it also allows illegal aliens to receive in-state tuition rates at public universities, discriminating against U.S. citizens from out of state and law-abiding foreign students. It repeals a 1996 federal law that prohibits any state from offering in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens unless the state also offers in-state tuition rates to all U.S. citizens.”

Sen. Vitter posed the question ‘does the Senate not listen?’ He recounted the previous defeats of amnesty bills because of the massive outpouring from the public against those amnesty bills.

He stated that this bill is definitely amnesty.
