Excitement in Berlin yesterday as Al Gore swept into town to speak at a conference on global warming. It was good timing for conference organiser EnBW, one of Germanys largest electricity companies, which got to piggy-back on the buzz generated by Gores triumph in Stockholm.
But despite the high demand for tickets for last nights slide show, not everyone in Berlin was happy.
Some climate campaigners said Gores speaker fee rumoured to be $180,000 was not sending the right message. Journalists moaned after finding that his meeting with Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, was just a photo-op. No questions allowed.
More seriously, the heavy-handed restrictions on reporting Gores words at the conference caused headaches. Scribblers and television cameras were allowed to document the first five minutes of his comments, but then had to put their pens away and turn off their cameras. Journalists had to submit a written declaration that they would not break the rules, which were said to be necessary because of copyright restrictions.
EnBW blamed Gores handlers, who in turn said they did not want his speech landing on the web. Critics noted that most people have already seen the presentation in his movie An Inconvenient Truth.
No one left doubting Gores message, but some grumbled that the Nobel Prize had gone to his head.
And he wants $200,000 to shut up.
2. well, I should know better...
3. Journalists, put away your pens means, "I never said any of this."
4. what a freaking racket.
What a fake, hes pimping the fraud of global warming to make cash and get attention. Are we the only ones who see this?
35 Inconvenient Truths: The errors in Al Gores movie
http://scienceandpublicpolicy.org/monckton/goreerrors.html
This is the biggest comedy of the century, Ally is making a bundle every where he goes. With this busy schedule, flying all over the world on his jet and limo-ing to all of his engagements, he is causing global warming all by himself! AL GORE: A regular self promoting entreprenuer! The world population who buys all of this, STUPID!
Maybe Gore isn’t as dumb as he sounds(?)
Talk about hot air...
If you think about it, everyone attending Gore’s talkathon will be using up precious resources. It’s quite clear this guy should cancel the program and let all those folks relax. What a burden of guilt they must all feel, driving cars, riding busses and taking subways to the program. And think of all those lights...
I’m thinking mass suicide when they all realize what they’ve done. I’m just trying to save them.
Don’t overlook “the Gore Commission.”
It’s always been about the Goracle.
Silly Germans. This is exactly what Al Gore and global warming is all about.
“Critics noted that most people have already seen the presentation in his movie An Inconvenient Truth.”
HAhahahaha...they’re paying 180K to see a speech they’ve already seen/heard? What nitwits.
You would think that the real scientists would demand to see studies, peer-reviewed articles, etc. Journalists not doing their jobs..
Journalists had to submit a written declaration that they would not break the rules, which were said to be necessary because of copyright restrictions.
That exactly what Professor Hill said to the press in River City!
I'm in for $100.
Will that be cash, or carbon-credits?
Translation: Gore talks about Tipper for 5 minutes and the rest of the time he lies.
