Shriver: TV News Career Over Because Of Anna Nicole
WRTV ^ ^ | 10/25/07

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Maria Shriver said that she won't resume her television news career and the late Anna Nicole Smith is the reason why.

Shriver said the media circus surrounding Smith's accidental drug overdose death last February led to her decision.

"It was then that I knew that the TV news business had changed and so had I," Shriver said Wednesday.

She said that she called NBC News and told them she wasn't coming back.

Shriver took an extended leave from the network when husband Arnold Schwarzenegger ran for California governor in 2003.

Her remarks came during the annual California Governor and First Lady's Conference on Women in Long Beach.

Schwarzenegger, preoccupied by the wildfires sweeping Southern California, made only a brief appearance via satellite at the conference.

Now she can devote 100% of her time to operating Arnold’s puppet strings.

This from a woman who married a man who put naked Anna Nicole Smith-look-a·likes on his shoulders and had pictures taken, LOL.

I applaud her for calling a spade a spade. She’s absolutely right about what has happened to so called “news” channels, including FOX.. all prostitutes for ratings at any cost, which the Anna Nicole coverage proved.

Fox is the worst with regard to sleazy tabloid crap, although they are slightly better at presenting both sides of a story. They used to be worth watching. Now there’s no TV news worth watching, it’s all crap.

I remember the media reporting on the media about ANS. Both FNC and CNN reduced their coverage, and lost viewers.

pMSNBC stuck with the ANS circus, and gained viewers.

Not that I'm defending them, but they do have to attract viewers to get advertisers to pay the bills.

I barely stop on FNC any more. I had them on as background on the last OJ cr@p, and they interrupted talking about OJ to have a news alert that they are talking about OJ.

But gained what kind of viewer? The one with a modicum of intelligence to earn enough money to buy their advertisers’ products? I bet a close look at the demographics of the Anna Nicole audience would show a different kind of audience than the well-educated, well-heeled, most desirable group Fox wants. A look at the easily exploitable insurance industry by the new mafia would have been fascinating, because it affects ALL of us.
