Jeri has been at the forefront of her husbands campaign from the moment he was pressed to run. The problem is that she is regarded as keener on victory than he is.As they say, behind every strong man is a strong woman.

In a startling admission, the wife of Fred Thompson, the Republican presidential contender, confessed last week that the bone-crushing pressure on candidates wives was like walking down the street with no clothes on. She was terrified of embarrassing Fred, she added. It would break my heart. What's so startling about that admission? I'm sure all candidates' wives feel exactly the same. So this story is just another re-hash of the 'woman behind the man' nonsense they've been heaping on Jeri from the beginning. Interesting that we haven't seen any stories like this about Cindy McCain, Michelle Obama, Ann Romney, or any of the other wives.

I can confirm the lack of enthusiasm on the part of Fred Thompson. I have seen him gut punch his own supporters in front of the entire RPOF by spending five minutes onstage when his supporters had laid out 100,000 for the right to be on that stage.
He has been the beneficiary of a campaign of Republican grassroots to draft him, he now enjoys a level of support which is unsupported by the facts. Fred’s appearances in Florida this last week have been the weakest showing of a candidate since Sam Brownback. As a Presidential candidate, Sam Brownback can sell out a Christian Fund-raiser weeks in advance. Fred cannot. This is a reluctant testimony that I give. I would love for Fred to be the great white hope. Now watch as his supporters trash you for posting this article, and me for giving an honest testimony.

Thompson supporters were shocked when Dan Hughes, the Tennessee senators enthusiastic front man in the key primary state of New Hampshire, switched sides last week and became vice-chairman of McCains state campaign. Anybody think there is a chance that Thompson and McCain team up?

The liberal media is just trying to build up the FUD factor for Fred.
The media has much to fear.

This article looks to me like it has a lot more speculation than actual facts.

I love Jeri Thompson. She’s so...real. So human. Unlike the phony ice queens we are used to in First Ladies. She would be a refreshing change.

Is anybody reading *all* of this article? Or are we hung up on the "Jeri is trying to shove him into the White House" stuff?
Thompson supporters were shocked when Dan Hughes, the Tennessee senators enthusiastic front man in the key primary state of New Hampshire, switched sides last week and became vice-chairman of McCains state campaign. Against the advice of his staff, Thompson has barely bothered to show up in New Hampshire since launching his campaign on the Jay Leno television show last month, instead of appearing at a debate with the other Republican candidates in the state. Im not going to be the token chairman of a token campaign. I was told they were going to run a vigorous campaign and they havent, Hughes said. Fred Thompson would have been a good candidate but he doesnt want to go out and campaign.
Unless Hughes is a big fat liar and making this up out of whole cloth, this situation is a problem. People like Hughes are pros; they don't come out with statements like this unless there is something to support it. If McCain had simply offered him more money to switch, Hughes wouldn't have been bashing Fred on his way out the door. He is obviously disappointed in what he saw/experienced with the Thompson campaign. Not good, folks, not good at all.

I don't see anywhere in the article where it's stated that Ron Kessler even knows Jeri. Yet he feels qualified to comment on her role.

Jeri Thompson, 41, was attending a conference on women chaired by Maria Shriver,
That is enough for me to worry Fred turning into Ahnald. No thanks!

I like Fred, but he doesn’t seem to have the “fire in the belly” that is needed to inspire and get people excited about his candidacy.

I want to see an aggressive campaign, period. If he DOES treat it passively....he's at risk.
