The first is the threat to the world's forests, especially old-growth forests which do not soak up carbon from the atmosphere. By seizing these forests, cutting them down, and converting them to carbon-intensive plantations, Third World governments and their cronies can cash in on carbon credits

Since it's better to laugh than cry, I'm going to laugh at this one. The law of unintended consequences strikes again.

Since most liberals can't even manage their own personal lives, they should forget about spaceship earth.

FWIW — it’s been known for a VERY LONG time that the rot and soil from old growth forests actually puts out more CO2 than the trees absorb — on a net yearly basis. Logging and replanting trees is FAR healthier for the environment AND the economy.

The US forests, since they have been cut and replanted -- and have more trees than a 100 years ago -- absorb CO2 at a much higher rate. Of course, warming causes atmospheric CO2 concentrations, not the other way around.

The clash of enviro-gripers is about come to a head.
