LOS ANGELES — Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died. He was 73.

The singer died Tuesday morning in a Los Angeles hospital while awaiting a lung transplant, said a Goulet spokesman in an e-mail.

He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being diagnosed with a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis in September.

I don’t remember if it was a nasty divorce, but I do remember them being married. The obituary says that he was married to his second wife for something like 25 years. Not bad in Hollywood.

He was so darn dashing. Prototypical leading man. Not to mention one beautiful voice. And a wicked sense of humour.

RIP, Bob.

“If ever I would leave you, it wouldn’t be in autumn...” Say it isn’t so!

Oh, I agree! And now that song is in my head (high school band)! What a shame, and so funny in those Emerald Nuts commercials. Rest in peace, Robert.

That was Steve Lawrence who was married to Edie Gorme. Robert Goulet was married to Carol Lawrence.

If ever I would leave you,
It wouldn’t be in summer,
Leaving you in summer
I never could go.
Your hair streaked with sunlight,
Your lips red as flame
Your face with a lustre
That puts gold to shame.

And if I’d ever leave you,
It wouldn’t be in autumn
Seeing you in autumn
I never would go.
I’ve seen how you sparkle
When fall nips the air
I know you in autumn
And I must be there.

And would I leave you
Running merrily through the snow
Or on a wintry evening
When you catch the fire’s glow?

If ever i would leave you
It wouldn’t be in spring time
Knowing how in spring
I’m bewitched by you so,

No, no, not in springtime
Summer winter or fall,
No never could I leave you
At all......

Sad, very sad. Met him years ago when he was a grand marshal in the italian american parade in nola. Very nice guy.

Will Farrell did some funny impressions of him.

25 years in Hollywood is incredible. Was the obit at the Fox link?

Yes.

Quoting from Foxnews.com:

“Goulet had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years.”

Thanks for the lyrics. They come from a time when there was some really good music. Lerner and Lowe, Rogers and Hammerstein — some of the best songwriters ever. Now we get so much hip hop and trash.

Back in the day when I was a singer in the joints, that was the one they always requested.

Angelic Choirs at Christmas will sure sound sweet this year with the new voices added.

I need to learn spelling:

Lerner and LOEWE, not Lowe. *SIGH*

Anybody remember his short-lived dramatic tv show?

He was still good looking even at 73. Of course, he could afford plastic surgery and Botox. But whether he did or not, he did age well.

I don’t, but apparently, the series was called Blue Light.

I also just read that Goulet did one of the very few Police Squad television shows (which eventually became the Naked Gun movies).
