And did Romney get all the illegals out of Mass.? I thought not.
In December 2006, Governor Romney Signed A Memorandum Of Agreement With The Federal Government Deputizing State Troopers To Enforce Immigration Laws. "Governor Mitt Romney and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and ICE, which will give specially trained Massachusetts State Troopers the authority to administer and enforce federal immigration laws in the Commonwealth." (Office Of The Governor, "Governor Romney, ICE Sign Immigration Enforcement Pact," Press Release, 12/13/06)
Governor Romney Vetoed In-State Tuition For Illegal Immigrants. "Romney also vetoed a number of outside sections of the budget, including: ... A plan that would have permitted illegal aliens to pay the same in-state tuition rate at our public colleges and universities as Massachusetts citizens." (Office Of The Governor, "Romney Signs $22.402B Fiscal Year 2005 'No New Tax' Budget," Press Release, 6/25/04)
- Governor Romney: In-State Tuition For Illegal Immigrants "Would Be A Mistake" Conflicting With Federal Law. "Mr. Romney said he was not prepared to provide 'special benefits' to illegal immigrants in the state. 'Our desire is to help legal immigrants,' he said. 'I do not believe that, out of respect for the law, that we can provide special benefits to illegal immigrants. We have a responsibility to uphold the law, and providing special benefits to those who are here in contravention of the national law, in my view, would be a mistake.'" (John J. Monahan, "Immigrant Tuition Bill Defeated," Telegram & Gazette, 1/12/06)
Governor Romney Opposed The Issuance Of Drivers' Licenses To Illegal Immigrants. "'Those who are here illegally should not receive tacit support from our government that gives an indication of legitimacy,' the governor said, echoing arguments that opponents have voiced in the Commonwealth and in other states considering similar license measures. 'If they are here illegally, they should not get driver's licenses,' he said." (Scott S. Greenberger, "Romney Stand Dims Chances Of License For Undocumented," The Boston Globe, 10/28/03)
Romney took action, remarkably effective action, given the entrenched political powers in Massachusetts.
What have you done to combat illegal immigration?
I guess the democrat approach of blissful ignorance (there is no 9/11, there is no 9/11, there is no 9/11) is the proper approach.
Religion of peace and all... ya’ know.
Tancredo has always been a class act. A bit of a loose canon at times, but on top of things.
There was a time where he was constantly being attacked as a one trick pony on this site, which is just nonsense.
I’m a Romney supporter, but I’ve been glad to see Tom in this race.
I like both Mitt and Fred. I don’t get to vote for many months and will let it all play out.
Yes he did do that, about 45 days before he left office, but they were ordered not to do anything without proper training which never happened. LOL Mitts flip flop
Thanks for the clarification on that.
Thanks. Frankly I found it hard to believe that Romney would have confronted the illegal immigrant problem in Massachusetts. So, he made an empty gesture, allowing him to play it either way in his future political career.
I fired a couple of them when I found out they weren’t legal. That’s what most other Americans need to do. Politicians, they just need to enforce the laws that are on the books. That’s what I pay them to do you nigmanog.
You don’t need to explain yourself to JC. You’re not the one running for President.
I refuse to hire them and report my competitors who do.
I also support the presidential candidate with a history of taking the most strident position against them. That is why I support Rep. Duncan Hunter.
ping
Romney-theRINOdictator did nothing until a month before
he left office as Governor in Mass.
Romney is responsible for the catastrophic invasion in Mass.
AND the health care mess that he has created by his
RomneyCARE=HillaryCARE.
which became effective the day my successor took office, not when I was in office.
Key word is effective.
I’m curious if anyone has Duncan Hunter’s record on votes in the early to mid-90s for comparison purposes. I imagine it is more of the same, but other candidates, like Thompson, are rated for this period and things are strangly silent for DH in the same time frame.
He opposed the 1986 amnesty and even told Reagan he was wrong to go along with it. There’s all kinds of information on Hunter during the 90’s and not just how he voted, but things he did to secure our borders and protect our sovereignty. During the Klintoon years he was always trying to get more border agents, etc. and he did so, but just as Bush seems to be stalling now, so did Clinton then.
The numbersusa grade is based on the candidates voting record with respect to reducing total immigration, both legal and illegal. Fred gets good grades for reducing illegal immigration and bad grades for reducing legal immigration, and the net result is a “C”.
How is Fred “revising history” with his recent proposal regarding illegal immigration? You are implying that he has changed his mind regarding illegal immigration (numbers gives him a A+ on a couple of votes), so lets see the specifics regarding your allegation.
