On Mexican Drugs, Bush Seeks $500 Million
Human Events Online ^ | 10/24/2007 | Mac Johnson

President Bush this week asked Congress to approve a supplemental spending bill for $42.3 billion. The bill is intended to fund U.S. military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. However, in a remarkable expansion of the meaning of the words “U.S. military”, “Afghanistan” and “Iraq” the bill also includes $724 million to fund U.N. Peacekeeping operations in Darfur and $500 million for Mexican police to fight Mexican drug dealers.

I honestly don’t know.

It would be easy to say if he were corrupt, like clinton, but I don’t think he is.

There were no obvious signs that he was a one-world establishmentarian during his first term in office. Sure, he reached out for Mexican votes, but he seemed to be doing it in a reasonable, or close to be reasonable, way.

The only really troubling sign was his willingness to lie down and let Vincente Fox trample all over him. But I thought that was just his somewhat foolish politeness. He also let Teddy Kennedy trample all over him.

Now, I don’t know. He is still reliable on the right to life. He still stubbornly refuses to let his enemies push him out of Iraq. But when it comes to Mexico . . . .

I suppose he figures a billion here or a billion there is just small change for the federal government. How much has he given to the failed and destructive AIDS program in Africa? Money not just wasted, but actually helping to spread AIDS and fund the gay-lesbian agenda?

Still, Mexico is a real puzzle. He’s neither corrupt nor stupid. Misplaced loyalty? Misplaced idealism? Misplaced friendship? I don’t know.

I honestly don’t know.

Can I help you? Plain and simple, the man is bad news and not good for this country. He's neither a capable leader, nor is he conservative.

Protection of our borders and our homeland is any presidents #1 priority...He not only completely failed, he actually aided and abetted the violent, illegal invasion of our homeland.

WHY are we giving Mexico anything?

Or Arab terrorists, for that matter.

I value your opinion, and appreciate your honesty.

But I'm beginning to believe a post I read on FR recently...

...as you say, Bush has been reliable on the right to life...
..but someone suggested this was to keep the social conservatives 'on the reservation'...
..as he pressed for amnesty and other red flag issues.

My first red flag was when he 'reached out' to Ted Kennedy for education reform....this only a few months after taking office.

My goodness, he might as well have been reaching for a snake to pet...

For several months now I question the sincerity of his 'good ole boy' demeanor...& wonder how gullible I have been.

500 million to Mexico while Ramos & Compean languish in jail.

Actions seem jarring and schizoid!

I think I was on drugs back when I voted for him.

Not me. I'm on them now! LOL They're not working though. Every day I wake up and he's still there. ;o)

the $500,000,000 for Mexican police could be better spent hiring more American border patrol agents.

Exactly correct. Bush's $1 Billion (over two years) to Mexico would be much better spent securing our border. That would keep it out of the corrupt Mexican officials pockets and would actually do the job Bush claims he wants done.

A previously very busy grocery store about three miles from my house closed down. Guess what... no one is standing in line at the door or waiting in the parking lot to get food, because the shelves are empty, the doors are locked and everyone knows they aren't going to get any groceries there.

The same holds true for our borders. If Bush truly secured the Mexican border, the drug gangs would leave Northern Mexico because they would know that they aren't going get their drugs across the border.

Can you please explain to me why President Bush wants to actually give Mexico over a billion..(the article states)...

..what part of this does my feeble brain not comprehend?

Why give them anything?....We know the corruption is rampant...

..can either of you or all of you please give me a simple explanation.....as I can find no bit of logic or rhyme or reason for doing this.

What am I missing?

My theory, only partially tongue in cheek, is that the Mexican government has incriminating pictures of Bush from his drinking days.

Based on many of his decisions, comments and policies, that might not be too far from the truth.

When he attempted to legalize the millions, that he himself encouraged to enter illegally...while the roar of outrage from American citizens could be heard from coast to coast...Well it put some very *serious* questions into play.

Your brain isn't feeble the difference between you and Bush is that you are thinking like an American. Bush is thinking in terms of his desired North American Union. As far as he is concerned the border between Mexico and the U.S. doesn't exist. He only sees one umbrella government covering Canada, Mexico and the U.S. Consequently he is giving money to people of the same government to which he belongs.

I’m trying to keep my cool, but I agree it’s not easy.

In any case, Bush is president until January 2009, and we have to deal with it as best we may. It’s enough to give you permanent heartburn trying to figure out how best to limit the damage he might do, if he has a mind to.

This little gift of a billion to Mexico is nothing, compared to the looming LOST treaty, or the perpetually resurrecting amnesty bills.

” $500 million for Mexican police to fight Mexican drug dealers. “

I believe that should read “to party with Mexican drug dealers”.
