GOP hit the polls harder than Demos (Louisiana)

More Republicans than Democrats and more white voters than black voters went to the polls on Oct. 20 for the statewide Louisiana election that made Bobby Jindal the governor-elect, according to information released by the secretary of state Wednesday.

Orleans had the lowest voter turnout of any parish, at 27.5 percent, a figure based on the number of people who voted among those registered to vote.

I just sent Senator Landrieu a copy of this article and a link to "What Color is your Parachute?" With her voter base out of New Orleans and the Secretary of State purging the voter rolls, the state is rapidly becoming a vibrant red.

I’m guessing some of my friends back in Louisiana were sorry they voted for Blanco the first time?

I think a good number of Blanco voters are no longer in Louisiana, and didn’t care enough to make the effort to vote from where ever they are.

The funny thing is that if the roles were reversed (a Repub gov. lost and the voter turnout was in the dems favor) the Louisiana election would be trumpeted as a sign of things to come. Funny how it has been buried.

One of my best friends stunned me when he told me he voted for Blanco the first time.

I haven't talked to him yet, but I'm sure he didn't do it again.

I s'pect a good number of Blanco voters are or were zombies or even one step further along the path to Purgatory. I s'pect many of these zombies still voted in the last election. I finally s'pect if the zombie vote were disqualified, Jindal would have garnered more that 60%.

I wonder...if any real Republican candidates out and about can read the same tea leaves.

So what else is new? Rs invariably out-vote Ds, as a % of registration, and the same with whites.

Amazing. One of the funniest/saddest points in the election (for me) came during a radio debate between Jindal and Blanco. The moderator opened the debate with something to the effect of, "Welcome! Stay tuned; at the bottom of the hour, the candidates will be allowed to ask each other a question." At the mid-way break; "Don't forget, when we come back from our bottom of the hour break, the candidates will ask each other a question!" At the bottom of the hour, "When we come back the from this break, the candidates will ask each other a question!" They came back from break; "Mr. Jindal, what is your question for Lt. Gov. Blanco?" Jindal asked an unmemorable question, Blanco gave an unmemorable answer. Moderator: "Thank you Mr. Jindal. Now, Lt. Gov. Blanco, what is your question?"

Followed by a *solid* 30 seconds of dead silence. Finally, there was some paper rustling, muttering, another person's voice, and an audibly flustered Blanco, "Ah, yes, thank you; ah, well, uh..." and then she asked her question. I can't decide if it was sad or hilarious. I hesitate to say this about anyone, but she is just plain dumb.

Yeah, the Dem zombies do vote. Mark Twain wrote about a graveyard worker who used to bury Dems with their heads into the hill, so that when they went to burrow out on Election day, they would dig themselves further into the hill. So the Dems have had the Z voters for a long, long time.

True, but considering the fact that there are more than twice as many registered Democrats that Republicans in Louisiana, it’s notable. Plus, I’m actually more interested in the fact that less than 30% of New Orleans voters came out to vote, which means that (a) Louisiana is becoming a reliable red state and (b) Mary Landrieu’s chances of winning re-election is quite slim.

They had to twist like a pretzel to avoid saying outright: “Republican Won”. Based on the numbers in the story, the headline should have read: “Democrats Abandon Party in Droves — Republican Elected”.

The Secretary of State just did a big purge of the rolls. His focus was on people who had moved out of state and registered elsewhere. Maybe he got some of the dead people out of there while he was at it (crossing fingers).

looking at Jim’s red note about “loose lips sink ships”, I hesitate a bit here.

Two things, first and as I have posted before, maybe it is possible that W’s Justice Dept. has quietly been disassembling the old dim voter fraud machines across the country. Second it sure is beginning to look as if the blacks are not being energized. Unless hitlery can cook up something real good real fast, that voter block may have other things to do come Nov. 7th 2008.

A few months after the storm, I was listening to the only radio station operating in New Orleans. It was talk radio, and the only topic for months and months was Katrina.

The caller admitted that at the time of the gubernatorial election, he knew Jindal was smarter and a better choice, by far, than Blanco, but he voted for Blanco because he was a democrat.

He went on to say that he sorely regretted that decision, because in the aftermath of the storm he saw how hard Jindal was working and how effective he was being in his role as congressman and how very disastrous Blanco was as governor.

I suspect there were a lot of people who voted that way for that reason who went on to regret their votes.

Do you remember the Jindal/Blanco debate that ended with Blanco crying?
