Jindal: U.S. has "moral obligation" to fulfill promise of aid to La.

Speaking to a national audience for the first time as Louisiana governor-elect, Republican Bobby Jindal downplayed the historical significance of his primary victory and instead emphasized the state's continued needs for federal aid to bolster hurricane recovery and coastal restoration.

Jindal told Chris Wallace, the host of Fox News Sunday, that the federal government has a "moral obligation" to fulfill the promise of aid that President Bush, one of Jindal's fellow Republicans, delivered in a national address broadcast from Jackson Square in the days after Hurricane Katrina.

And Jindal noted the support that Democratic congressional leaders already have voiced for granting more federal money to ensure that the deficit-bound Road Home program does not leave homeowners without compensation.

"I think it would be better for the administration to be proactive about this instead of being forced to do what I think is right," said Jindal, who will take office Jan. 14.

The governor-elect expressed the same sentiments Friday standing alongside outgoing Gov. Kathleen Blanco, a

He had better get LA in the bread line first if Charles Merrill of the Merrill/Lynch family is correct:

November 01, 2007
This Merrill Sees a Crash

While opinions about which way the stock market is headed are a dime a dozen, I have to admit that my interest was piqued when I clicked on the link to the following press release (it was forward to me by a reader of the Financial Armageddon blog):

“Charles Merrill Fears Market Crash”

PALM SPRINGS, Calif., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire/ — Fearing a stock market crash worse than 1929, Charles Merrill (http://www.merrillcharles.com) of Palm Springs, cousin to the founder of the Merrill/Lynch dynasty, is quickly converting to gold coins.

“Merrill Lynch is crashing, due to the ineptness of the CEO. No matter who is running Merrill Lynch & Co., it’s going to need a regimen of restraint and recuperation after getting badly bruised by the global credit market shakeout. I predict a house of dominos, and the whole stock market is going to crash,” stated Merrill.

The world’s largest brokerage took a $7.9 billion writedown for subprime mortgages and asset-backed bonds whose values went sour. Many on Wall Street believe there’s more where that came from - maybe another $4 billion - and Merrill Lynch’s leadership will need to reduce risk and rebuild morale among its ranks.

Merrill stated in a Palm Springs interview with Michael L. Grace (http://www.michaellgrace.com), “There is going to be a major stock market crash, so protect your assets. Buy physical gold and hide it.”

I called “Bobby” out on being a RINO a month ago when he said he would vote to override the Bush S-CHIP’s Veto.

If the government said that they were going to do something, then they do have an obligation to fulfill it, RINO or not.

Why is that? Can’t they change their mind?

There is no way I'm going to rino this guy before he has even taken office...

Funds have been promised and probly appropriated and need to be delivered...

How he uses these funds is the key...

I for one will give him a chance...

Nah, he’s no RINO. Sheesh, the definition of RINO gets dumbed down further every week around here. The guy had an lifetime ACU rating of 96! He’s the governor now, and his job is to get as much loot for his state as he can. Big deal. It’s expected.

You mean the Federal Govt should become “Indian giver” to
a governor of India ancestry?

Common, don’t be a tight wad. We Americans take pride in helping those in distress for NO FAULT of their own. Louisiana did not invite Katrina. You have to see the devastation at first hand to appreciate the catastrophe in New Orleans.

So I can get rid of my insurance and depend on the government for any problems? My stocks are going down right now, through no fault of my own, where is Uncle Sam?

CORPS CHIEF ADMITS TO DESIGN ‘FAILURE’
Thursday, April 06, 2006
By Bill Walsh
Washington bureau

WASHINGTON — In the closest thing yet to a mea culpa, the commander of the Army Corps of Engineers acknowledged Wednesday that a “design failure” led to the breach of the 17th Street Canal levee that flooded much of the city during Hurricane Katrina.

Lt. Gen. Carl Strock told a Senate committee that the corps neglected to consider the possibility that floodwalls atop the 17th Street Canal levee would lurch away from their footings under significant water pressure and eat away at the earthen barriers below.

“We did not account for that occurring,” Strock said after the Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing. “It could be called a design failure.”

CORPS TAKES BLAME FOR KATRINA FLOODING

By CAIN BURDEAU
The Associated Press
Friday, June 2, 2006; 8:43 AM

NEW ORLEANS — A contrite U.S. Army Corps of Engineers took responsibility Thursday for the flooding of New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina and said the levees failed because they were built in a disjointed fashion using outdated data.

“This is the first time that the Corps has had to stand up and say, `We’ve had a catastrophic failure,’” Lt. Gen. Carl Strock, the Corps chief, said as the agency issued a 6,000-page-plus report on the disaster on Day 1 of the new hurricane season.

And I guess that means a mortgage free home for everyone who lives there or wants to live there whether they had a home or not before the storm.

“~ Ugh. How many billions have we poured into this toilet?” ~

Five states that were impacted by 3 hurricanes in 2005 shared nearly $130 billion.
The hurricanes were, Wilma, Katrina and Rita. The states involved include, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi,Louisiana, and Texas. Of those states, Louisiana experienced damage from both Katrina and Rita. Louisiana has or will receive part of that money, not all of it.

Here is a government report that outlines how the money is being dispersed.

How many false prophets will we continue to put our faith in?

As I said after he was elected, “Wait and see.”

The rapist who SOLD (for a few shekels of silver) missile-guidance technology to the ChiCom became governor of Arkansas as a pro-life conservative.

You don’t think there are other things he could focus on in his first months as a national figure? Instead, he goes running to the feds demanding his handout.

He should be working on getting his own house in order.

I get it. Be conservative in certain votes the ACU tracks (ACU is way overrated on this forum by the way), achieve greater power, use that power to steal from one tax payer and give to a sinking hole. Repeat process to no end and there you have a dependence on the American tax payer and a way to bribe ignoramuses for votes. How conservative.

Jindal lifetime rating at CAGW (Which tracks more vote than ACU) is 73%. Not bad but not good either. There seems to be a sense that he does not mind using the tax payer to fund reelection "causes". No doubt that Jindal is a strong social conservative but fiscally he is a lot weaker. Too bad for over 40 years people including this website, need far more than what Article 1 Section 8 says. Outdated a bit but even with that, the federal governments budget is an abomination compared to what most founders envisioned none the less.

Perpetually pouring billions into a bowl every year to a city that can't function without money from the tax payer NOT FROM THAT STATE mind you but from the rest of the 49 is not good government. Aid is one thing but it has been over two years. It is time for LA to get self reliant period.
