Out side my front door? I think a hicap mag of 5.56 would be better than a clip of 10mm. But I do have both. Sorry to hear about the dog but wolves are really becoming a dangerous problem here. I heard there is a bounty out now on them.
My son had a friend of his shoot a black bear - inside thier house here in Anchorage.

The bear went into the kitchen, trashed it & them expired.
What a mess. Next time, he said he would use a shotgun, might be less to clean up. I doubt it.
