TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Topeka police are investigating vandalism at the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its protests at the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq.
Police said graffiti spray-painted on the church read, "God hates intolerance'' and "God hates the Phelps,'' an apparent reference to the church's belief that God is punishing the United States for its support of homosexuals.
The vandalism was discovered on the day after a Baltimore jury awarded 11 million dollars to the father of a fallen Marine who sued the church over its protest of his son's funeral.
Two homemade firecrackers were found outside the church, and area streets were shut down as a precaution.
Church leader Shirley Phelps-Roper said the damage is the latest of numerous acts of vandalism committed to the church's property over the past 17 years.

I remember seeing Louis Theroux’s show about WBC. Some nearby churches were vandalized, including an Episcopal church, which had the misfortune of being near WBC.
I suspect WBC was involved.
Horrible that this would happen to Al Gore’s buddy and fellow democrat.
They have thrown out enough fighting words that they have little to complain about in return. The marks on their walls can be removed with a lick of paint and some elbow grease; the marks they have left on the psyche of a fallen hero’s loved ones are not so easy to erase. May the Phelps family roast in hell for eternity.

Considering who these scum-bags are, my money says that the “vandalism” is self-inflicted. More likely than not an effort to garner publicity and sympathy.

Indeed, it's not like the church hasn't already been vandalized by the Phelps Cult as it is, no need to add to the damage. Spray paint the cult members instead.
