"This is not an unverified source."

Perhaps not to you, but it is to me.

I saw an unlinked reference to this "Press Release" on another forum. A Google search presents this topic as a possible link to a source. However, the "link" provided by the OP was NOT a link to a source and that should have been made clear by Mr. Osborne in the OP.

Look, I don't know Mr. Osborne, his politics or his "credibility" from Adam. For all I know (or care), he might be a pseudonym for Duncan Hunter himself...but it's irrelevant to the point. When I read a post in this forum purporting to link to a source, I expect to find THAT SOURCE at the other end of the link...and not have to spend several minutes in a fruitless search of the offered "source" for verification.

"The release came out from Gary Becks."

Neither you nor I know that based on Mr. Osborne's information presented. Perhaps you're intimate with the campaign. I'm not.

"It is not on the site yet because the two people that update the site are having computer issues."

That information would have been a welcome addition to the OP, as would have been his disclaimer several posts deep into the topic.

As to the content of the "Press Release" itself and as a $$$ contributor to the Hunter campaign, I'll echo the sentiment expressed above. It smacks of desperation politics and I'm truly sorry to see it.

>>>Perhaps not to you, but it is to me.

No. It has contact information for verification. That qualifies for verified source.

>>>However, the “link” provided by the OP was NOT a link to a source and that should have been made clear by Mr. Osborne in the OP.

The FreeRepublic site has accepted that method in past postings. If they have changed the rules, I’ve not seen the thread posted. But when someone has breaking news that has not made the website source, FR has permitted the linking of the source site. AND, you can go right the the GoHunter08.com contact links to verify Gary Becks.

>>>he might be a pseudonym for Duncan Hunter himself.

Duncan Hunter has his own user login at FR verified by the Site Admin of FR.

Writing another paranoid post about how "they're out to get my guy" isn't that effective even if it makes you feel better.

It's just difficult, outside that restrictive Texas straw poll he won, to find support for Duncan. Where are his Meetups and his supporters on MySpace and Facebook. Or dozens of blogs and specialty websites supporting him. Or fundraising showing he can make it through the primaries, let alone win them. Or the polls showing he has a chance. Or even enough supporters to spam a few online polls somewhere.

Look, I like Duncan fine and would support him to defeat Rudi if he stays in the race and looks like he could defeat Rudi. Your problem is the great numbers of GOP primary voters who don't seem to care for him or who rank him as their #2, #3, etc. Or maybe have never even heard of him.

Hunter has won or been 2nd in several straw polls. And there are dozens of Meetups sites, etc.

GOP urges probe in China firm deal (Hunter, Hoekstra and Sessions)

>>>Senior Pentagon officials, meanwhile, are investigating the security aspects of the announced plan for China’s Huawei Technologies and the investment firm Bain Capital Partners to buy 3Com, which makes equipment used by the Pentagon to block computer hackers, including those from the Chinese military.<<<

Tidbit for all. 3Com is the company responsible for providing the firewalls and security software to the Pentagon. Let’s keep that in mind.

Hunter has won or been 2nd in several straw polls. And there are dozens of Meetups sites, etc.

I recall three firsts in straw polls offhand, by far the most important was the largely uncontested Texas one.

Duncan's MeetUps: "339 Duncan Hunter Supporters in 19 Groups from 17 Cities"

That's pretty limited. Ron Paul is mustering 60,000 currently and didn't even try to get them to sign up. Admittedly, that's a geeky bunch. But look at some of the other candidate's and their grassroots. There's a big difference.

141 Fred Thompson Supporters in 9 Groups from 8 Cities (yikes!?!?)

The others are all under one hundred total. Man, that's a pathetic showing for grassroots by the other candidates. I thought Fred and Mitt would be in the thousands. Big surprise for me.

The fundraising is less encouraging:

Lots of talk going on about Hunter and whether this is a sourced release, etc. and what direct influence Romney may or may not have with Bain.

My simple concerns are these:

  1. Is the Chinese company partnering with Bain run by this guy that they pupport?
  2. Is it true that he supported the Taliban and Saddam against our troops?
  3. Is the head of the chinese company in fact a front for the PLAN?
If any one, two, or all of those are true, then whether Hunter actually wrote the letter, whether Romney is or is not any longer directly involved with Bain, etc., etc., ad nauseum is irrelevent to me.

The only relevent point to me is why this deal even has a prayer of going through, and why all the Presidential candidates, regardless of stripe, are not speaking out against it.

If Hunter is speaking out against it, and advising or asking other candidates to do likewise...bully for him. He should be.

Given these conditions, if true, it IS a national security issue and therefore does fall under the umbrella of scrutiny for national security reasons...because 3COM is deeply involved with the cyber security of the DOD and the Chinese have stated directly and are acting on it, their intent to be able to oppose us in that areana.

Just my htoughts on the issue.

"a longer record on borders/illegals."

That statement is false. If Tancredo works real hard, he may someday be considered Hunter's protege. Hunter got the fence passed and it is your namesake that is holding up progress. Hunter is the only one running on either side that has actually "done" anything in regards to border security.

If you want to support or vote for "Road to the WhiteHouse" converts, that is certainly your prerogative. This isn't the last flailings of anyone, nor is it an attack. If Romney has no gravitas with Bain, which he founded, then I am not sure who would. It certainly isn't an attack to request someone admonish a company that he, himself, founded.

When the entire hen house is all foxes and no hens; I am not sure what value media polls will be to you then. Ron Paul would likely blame the hens for being so tasty. Fred would likely say we have to give the foxes some aspirations of eating hens until his handlers reigned him in. McCain would be concerned foxes were being tortured and write a "Fox Bill of Rights". Huckabee would pander to all concerned till we could at least "feel good" about the situation. Rudy, well Rudy wouldn't care because he is smart enough to realize, people will support him, because he knows they will put the foxes on the back burner, because they think he is the only one who can defeat the mythical sasquatch.

Hunter is the only candidate who has a clue about the threat to this country from Chinese espionage and penetration of our economy. While other candidates adopt poses about “family values” (which are important, but not a primary responsibility of the federal government) and sport bogus last-minute “conversions” to conservative values, Hunter has walked the walk for his entire career.

Concerns over the 3com deal are appropriate. But is Hunter right to go past his own House connections and committees, the Senate, the National Security Council, the CIA, the NSA, the DoD, and President Bush and instead blame Romney because a company he once headed has some involvement with this Chinese company?

It seems a lot more political than anything likely to be effective. In the end, it won't even be effective. Romney is too smart to respond. So is Bain, I think.

I think few of us ever heard of Duncan Hunter before this year unless we really followed Armed Services Committee matters very closely.

Tom Tancredo was, for years, the sole voice really speaking out reliably on the borders/illegals issue.

Ask anyone else on the forum who has been better known for raising the issue publicly. I think 95% will name Tancredo as the real leader on the issue. Now, Duncan may have got the big fence bill through, mostly because the GOP was afraid of its own record in office and because Duncan chaired a key committee and was planning to run for president. But it remains that Tanc is the borders/illegals guy for most conservatives.

Adding to that. 3Com and Bain are currently being reviewed by and for National Security issues. I’ve not seen an official release on that. Just references to the process in other articles.

So since we don't know, then it completely appropriate for Hunter to flail against Romney over a company Romney only holds shares in currently?

Grandstanding.

Since we don’t know. That is it. You can talk out of both sides for the rest of this thread. He is privy to more info than you and it affects our infrastructure which he is privy to more than you. It falls under his domain for homeland security.
