Clinton presidency not looking like a sure thing anymore

WASHINGTON - Suddenly, Hillary Clinton's ascent to the White House is not the sure thing many have been thinking.

After that Democratic free-for-all in Philadelphia last Tuesday, she seems like the same-old, same-old politician who can't give a straight answer, whose credibility is in doubt. In short, she's squarely in the pit in which her rivals were determined to push her.

For a former first lady who was dragged before grand juries and prosecutors seeking to find out if she was telling the truth about the missing bills from her old law firm, the slough of doubt is not a good hole to be in right now.

She is in this fix because her campaign (and most of the media) basically had decided the Democratic presidential nomination was such a given that she should start positioning herself for a general election campaign.

In other words, she no longer had to woo just Democrats who will vote in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary but begin enticing independents and even fence-sitting Republicans who might consider voting for the first woman president.

Thus, she became a generic politician, determined not to alienate anyone, except for the dwindling population of Bushies.

She wouldn't say that Social Security and Medicare benefits either have to be cut or taxes increased; she's vowed to appoint another one of those drearily endless bipartisan commissions to study the problem.

She wouldn't say she would set a timetable for getting U.S. soldiers out of Iraq. She agrees the war is horrible but she'll see what the situation is next year.

[Snip]

It's hard to blame Hillary for wanting to avoid taking stands on issues that she knows will infuriate millions. She really, really, really wants to be the first woman president.

That’s because the CFR likes Obama better. A muslim would make the Saudi’s who’ve bought off our politicians very happy.

Not looking like a sure thing anymore?

Since when did it look like a "sure thing"?

...she's squarely in the pit in which her [Dem] rivals were determined to push her.

Push her? Perhaps "nudge" her. The "rivals" know that they'd better tread softly or their well-being may be in jeopardy.
