Yeah, yeah... I just gave it a quick glance and thought Florida was obscured by cloud cover. I should've realized it wasn't the Mississippi - Ol' Man River cuts a much less direct path to the coast... and there wasn't a "crescent" where the Crescent City should've been.

Oh well, I was right about the silt plume. That's amazing to see, regardless of what estuary it is.

From a glance at my globe and a quick Google, I believe it is Antilles (The Dominican Republic). Puerto Rico is the island to the right.

I think the location of the land mass is the two parts of New Zealand.

Dude! Bugs Bunny sawed it off in Rebel Rabbit.

True.   But, as can be clearly seen below, he didn't saw off those little southernmost doohickey parts of Alabama and Mississippi.

So, your theory falls short, I'm afraid.

This is driving me nucking futs. Where in the hell is it? No discernible city, four rivers, mountain range, distinctive coastal pattern.... We should have figured this out a long time ago!

The Canadians made sure Canada was prominently displayed on the cargo arm. Of course, they built the thing, so I certainly can’t begrudge them. They deserve the credit. Way to go, Kevin (I don’t know who actually developed the arm, but if you’re going to thank a Canadian, that’s the safest guess).

Canadians, I’m just funnin’ with ya, eh?

Honestly, year upon year, dollar upon dollar, the photography alone almost justifies the space program. If shots like these don’t inspire you, check your pulse, because you might be dead.

What up with all the Canaduh crap? Can’t remember them launching a space shuttle?

They designed and built the cargo arm. Dissing them is like driving the car for a camping trip and then ripping on the guy who brought the tent.

For the record, the cargo arm, part of the original shuttle system design, has been adapted to changing needs many times, and has always performed reliably. The Canucks have not failed, have lived up to their part of the bargain, and where I come from you don't show a trustworthy friend the back of your hand.

And they gave us Shania Twain. Ain't nothin' wrong with that.

Hi, It appears to be the straight between the
two major islands of New Zealand. Wellington
would be on the southern most tip of the north
island in the picture.

Check it out on Google Earth.

Thomas, you can quit looking.... It’s some outback of New Zealand, a place so inhospitable, not even a Canadian would put a tent there.

It was driving me crazy also. I like to think I’m good at geography, but I couldn’t place this.

I went to an online world map and looked for two land masses in a temperate zone, because of the green areas. The orientation of the picture was tough, and the curve of the earth is also evident.

I first thought it was the Gulf of Mexico because of the curve of the bay, but Florida and the Miss. delta of LA were missing.

The website has satellite views of all of the countries. So I started with New Zealand and saw some similarities in the area between its two parts to the pictures. I kept toggling back and forth, and decided this must be the place.

The link in djf’s post after mine, actually takes you to the NASA picture with an explanation that it is NZ.

My method was more crude, but it worked.
