Afghan blasphemy suspect arrested

KABUL: An Afghan official accused of misinterpreting the Holy Quran in a translation of the holy book was arrested trying to cross into Pakistan Sunday, a day after parliament banned him from travelling, the attorney general said.
Mohammad Ghaws Zalmai, a spokesman for attorney general Abdul Jabar Sabet, was picked up at the Torkham border crossing in the early morning, Sabet told reporters in Kabul. "Ghaws Zalmai was arrested at the border gate as he was crossing into Pakistan," he said.
Sabet said he had also ordered the arrest of a Kabul preacher, Qari Mushtaq, who had approved Zalmai's version of the Quran. On Saturday both houses of parliament slammed the official's translation into Dari of the Muslim holy book, saying he had misinterpreted many issues. It ordered that he should not be allowed to leave the country until the religious committee of the Upper House had studied his text. Media reports said several thousand copies of his translation have been distributed free. Zalmai, a former journalist who heads media affairs in Sabet's office, told AFP he did not want to comment on the issue.
Abadullah Abad, a medical doctor who had obtained a copy, said he could not see how Zalmai's translation was fundamentally different to another accepted Dari version.
"I read it and compared it to the other accepted copy of the holy book and found nothing altered," Abad said.

Which translation?
And we’re fighting and dying for this?
In the end, in Afghanistan, all we will have succeeded in doing is freeing the country from a particularly oppressive strain of Islam, and secured that nation from being a launching pad of attacks on the dar al-harb, the Land of War (areas of the world that still have not accepted Islam’s Three Demands: convert, submit or die).
As today’s news out of Pakistan shows, political and social life can deteriorate in hours, flushing years of work down the toilet.
When the Afghan government no longer depends on the US for day to day protection, it will “revert to type” even more openly. And “type” for a -stan, a country whose very name is prefixed with the stated desire to be Islamic, is to maintain and enforce the ummah, the public and private imposition of a all-consuming way of life from which any expression of a desire to escape is a capital crime.
Further proof that Muslims are insane.
doesn't matter, they all say the same thing.
They don’t “read” the Koran, they memorize it and repeat it orally. The average Muzzie hasn’t a clue what it says. That’s why you find muzzies in a state of denial when you translate what it means to them.
Actually, there are some subtle (and not-so-subtle) differences, depending on how far back your translation started.
My grandfather was a scholar in ancient Greek and Aramaic, and he found out some interesting things by back-translating from the original Greek text to Aramaic. For example, in the well-known "It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to enter Heaven", the Aramaic word for "camel" is the same or similar to the word for "rope". This adds to the complexity of the idea of "unburdening" in order to enter Heaven. (A rope, reduced to its component strands, can indeed be passed through the eye of a needle, just as a camel, unburdened, could pass through the gate in the wall of Jerusalem known as "the eye of the needle". Other differences in translataion, however cause more consternation, and even result in doctrinal issues.
