New Cable TV Vouchers Ban FOX News

Democrats' hard-fought battle to provide cable television to welfare recipients hit another snag yesterday when Republicans found a newly inserted provision that specifically excludes FOX News Channel from programming options. "This clause was not in this bill last week," said Rep. Jim Clements (R-CO) "I don't know whether someone thought they could slip this by us, or what, but this is getting to be a bit much." The affected bill, a 3.5 billion dollar spending measure that proponents say is necessary to educate potential voters before the 2008 elections, has met with great resistance from conservative legislators on both sides of the aisle who portray it as just one more unnecessary entitlement tacked onto an already over-burdoned welfare system. "The Federal Government is not obliged to provide people the ability to watch Sponge Bob Square Pants." Said Rep. Mitch Weyland (R-NM), "This whole idea was bad from the beginning... it's a waste of taxpayer dollars." "Contrary to what my friend from New Mexico thinks, this is not about entertainment. It's about education.," said Warren Billingsley, Democrat from Buffalo, New York, and co-sponsor of the 'Voter Education and Inclusion Act.' Billingsley claims that without cable television, an irreplaceable source of political info and events, millions of voters nationwide will be disenfranchised from the process. "We need to move beyond this notion that only the very rich should have access to the political process," he said. "We want the American people, all of the American people, to have the proper information before heading to the polls in 2008." Asked why language was inserted to specifically bar FOX News Channel from programming, he replied, "FOX News isn't a source of proper information."

No doubt a supporter of Spitzer's driver licenses for illegals plan too.
These people are a serious threat to the Constitution and freedom and need be dealt with in the most severe terms.

If we could only get back to the days when our re-election and control of Congress was guaranteed and; the people hardly knew there was a Republican Party.

I can’t find any information about the politicians mentioned in this article, and no information about the bill itself.

I think this is a hoax.

I hate Democrats...have I mentioned that lately? I mean I really really really really really really really really hate them.

On one side of their bullshit argument they want to cite the argument for disenfranchised votes (total Gore 2000 made up B.S.) and then we have them not wanting to recognize the #1 Cable News channel in the nation because it is not considered a real news source?

This is not only a waste of tax payer’s dollars..it is communism.

I suspect FNC is going to have a lot of fun with this and make asses of the democrats who sponsored the amendment.

I think they've made asses out of themselves, and in so doing have once again chosen to emulate their Party's mascot.

The name of the bill is the “Voter Education and Inclusion Act.’

I suggest you do not waste any time and call your Congressman right now and voice you objections!

President Bush held a press conference just this morning with Bill Clinton who are urging Congress to pass the Voter Education and Inclusion Act.’

"Moreover, the article has another mistake. It is not 3 billion for free cable but actually 3 trillion dollars for Free Cable to the Poor."

$3 trillion? Do you have a source for this?

$3 trillion? Do you have a source for this?

This morning President Bush and Bill Clinton held a joint press conference to advocate this bill and said that it would cost 3 trillion.

Bush demanded that Congress have the bill on his desk by Tuesday morning.

I would like to see a reort on political contributions and other pay offs from the cable TV industry to the sponsors of this bill.

Wouldn’t it be a treat if there was a law requiring every sponsor and supporter of a bill to include a summary of all contact and financial transactions with any person or entity that will be directly or indirectly affected by a proposed law?

We do not buy cable TV. My wife and I were raised in the era of free, black and white TV. It just seems wrong to have to pay to watch TV.
