Giuliani says former police commissioner's results outweigh errors

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire: Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Monday that if his achievements as president are as good as the crime-reduction results of his New York police commissioner, a man now under criminal investigation himself, "this country will be in great shape."

Giuliani, in an interview with The Associated Press, acknowledged mistakes by Bernard Kerik, who was police commissioner when Giuliani was mayor. But he said crime reduction for the city was more important.

Kerik, whom Giuliani pushed to head the federal Department of Homeland Security, is under investigation on what could be multiple felony charges. Giuliani said he had not spoken to his friend and one-time business partner recently and had no idea what implication a Kerik indictment or plea deal could have on his presidential campaign.

"I have no idea what's going to happen, first of all, nor do I have any idea what he's going to do," the Republican contender said.

Giuliani has accepted responsibility for his role in Kerik's embarrassing 2004 withdrawal as President George W. Bush's Homeland Security nominee after revelation of tax problems. Ethics questions and corruption allegations also have swirled around Kerik. But the former New York mayor said the results of the commissioner's time in New York far outweigh isolated incidences.

"Bernie Kerik worked for me while I was mayor of New York City. There were mistakes made with Bernie Kerik. But what's the ultimate result for the people of New York City? The ultimate result for the people of New York City was a 74 percent reduction in shootings, a 60 percent reduction in crime,

So now "possible" felony charges are essentially a conviction or at least a basis to play guilt-by-association? Now you tell me a Dem would get this same treatment. Please!

IT covered for the invaders in ITS city!
IT surrounds ITself with queers and thugs!

Why does IT have an R by ITS name instead of a D?

Giuliani, in an interview with The Associated Press, acknowledged mistakes by Bernard Kerik, who was police commissioner when Giuliani was mayor. But he said crime reduction for the city was more important.

Zero question that this AP piece starts with a turn of phrase which in itself implies the Mayor is also under investigation. The AP expects us all to nod and turn our heads, like dogs to a whistle... Nevertheless, even my Mainstream Media Bias Filter is stretched My the sentence which follows.

NOW, having though about it in my pre-dawn hazy thinking, I realize it, too, is a clever turn of phrase, saying what the Mayor said. (I'm genuinely sorry, but I have difficulty remembering how to spell his name, so with genuine respect, I refer to him by his well-earned title.

Either the Mayor or the writer, who then must have wanted to raise it, have posed a moral question... and a question that floats on rhetoric alone...though it was enough to make me stop and meditate on whether "mistakes" Kerik "made" are less important than his accomplishments.

Apples and Oranges, obviously, but a clever way to twist the unconscious moral filters of headline screeners sipping their first cup of coffee.

I guess I could say this makes the writer either a very good writer or a genuinely evil one.

I have to remember one of the biggest social change in my lifetime is the acknowledgment of the Left that there is another side. They were all Mobius Strip thinkers when I grew up, unable to accept "another side," even though this has resulted in their being less comfortable and less rational.

The angle to this story that you don't hear much about is pretty damning. Bernie Kerik actually had an open warrant for his arrest when he was named to head the Department of Homeland Security.

Hey Liz, looks like Rooty is trying to act like he and old Bernie were not and are not really that close.

We need that picture to show how close they really are and have been.

POLITICAL CORRECTNESS SURGERY COMPLETED (HOW THE BERNIE-RUDY STORY SHOULD READ).

.......as to Kerik's filthy links to organized crime, "Me-First Giuliani" defended the tainted Kerik----Giuliani's former driver, bodyguard and business partner.

Giuliani connived to foist Kerik on the Nation as Homeland/Sec/Secy b/c Kerik would have wholesale access to FBI files.

Kerik's surveillance of FBI files---then turning over useful info to Giuliani---would materially advance Power-Mad Giuliani's political ambitions.

"Me-First Giuliani" also connived to shield himself from the fact that he had knowledge of, but ignored, Kerik’s filthiness. "I was not informed of it,” "Save-My-Rear Giuliani" lied when asked if he had been warned about mobbed-up Kerik when he appointed Kerik to the top NYC police post in 2000.

But "Security Expert Giuliani" had tripped up royally trying to save himself, and was forced to amend the statement last year in testimony to a state grand jury.

"Forgetful Giuliani" the security expert said that neither he nor any of his aides could recall being briefed about Kerik’s mob involvements.

"Me-First Giuliani" was forced to acknowledge that the city investigations commissioner, Edward J. Kuriansky, had told him that Kerik was mob-connected at least once.

But a review of Mr. Kuriansky’s diaries, and investigators’ notes from a 2004 interview with Giuliani indicate that such a session indeed took place.

Even more significant:

According to Kuriansky’s diaries compiled at the time (plus Kuriansky's later recollection to investigators), Kuriansky recalled briefing Giuliani’s closest aides about Kerik’s dirty entanglements just days before Giuliani promoted his chauffeur, Kerik, (the man who knows where all of Giuliani's bodies are buried) to be the city's top cop.

I agree both Rudy and Fred are sticking up for their friends. I think that is a show of character.

Putting your mobbed-up pal on the city payroll, and promoting him for the head of Homeland Security, shows a decided lack of character.

Loyalty is a wonderful thing, but it should never be allowed to trump integrity.

What results? Kerik was the commissioner for the last year or so of Rudy's administration.

I think Rudy's really talking about his own results. He certainly can't show that Kerik's prior qualifications or results in office justified ignoring his mob connections.
