Given how much of the population left in 2005 and never returned, this is even more appalling.

No it's not....the place is economically depressed and many illegals have settled there now hoping fed dollars would give them jobs in the cleanup and rebuilding.

Unfortunately, for our uninvited non-English speaking / reading sponges, they were sold an empty dream not even beginning to understand the state-wide corruption in Dem-controlled Louisiana.

Those fed dollars have been channeled into Demoncrap businesses with services and work only being completed on the books. A well oiled machine of goobermint sponsored money laundering at the state level.

I was in New ORLEANS the first half of April 2006.
I could tell then that the city was about at 40% re-populated.Anyone who was there Pre-Katrina could literally feel this. Official statistics later bore my instincts
out.
It didn’t take long for crime and criminals to re-assert
themselves once the repopulation began.
The “culture” of and for crime that already and always
existed there proved to be more conducive for criminals and crime than the far flung areas like Houston and the rest of the South so many had fled to; there they would have had to deal with a functioning law enforcement and
entrenched populations that wouldn’t have stood for it.
So generally they came back.
And ironically enough, it turns out that the ONLY drop in
the usual crime statistics that defined New Orleans, was DURING that whole period of Katrina, and the aftermath.
And if you’ll remember that coverage DURING Katrina by showboaters like Geraldo, with their Dante-esque depictions of “The Seventh Circle of Hell”, you have to wince and laugh at the same time with the realization that this was really the ONLY time the Media has bothered to play up crime in New Orleans——when it DIDN’T happen!
