Semper Fi-- Marines celebrate 232nd year
The Daily Journal (Kankakee) ^ | 11/08/2007 | Mary Baskerville

Posted on 11/08/2007 11:59:12 AM PST by Iron Munro

From the Halls of Montezuma
To the Shores of Tripoli;
We fight our country's battles
In the air, on land and sea;
First to fight for right and freedom
And to keep our honor clean;
We are proud to claim the title
of United States Marine.

Our flag's unfurled to every breeze
From dawn to setting sun;
We have fought in ev'ry clime and place
Where we could take a gun;
In the snow of far-off Northern lands
And in sunny tropic scenes;
You will find us always on the job--
The United States Marines.

Here's health to you and to our Corps
Which we are proud to serve
In many a strife we've fought for life
And never lost our nerve;
If the Army and the Navy
Ever look on Heaven's scenes;
They will find the streets are guarded
By United States Marines.

"I would do it again. I think I did more to help my country in the service than I ever would have done by myself. It was wonderful," Chris Ohlhues of Custer Park said in reflecting on her service in the U.S. Marines Corps during World War II at Parris Island in South Carolina.

Marines and others are invited to celebrate the 232nd birthday of the Corps from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday with cake and coffee at the Malcolm J. Mayo VFW Post 5422 at Baltimore and Third Street in Wilmington. The Marines were first commissioned by the Continental Congress on Nov. 10, 1775.

Also - lets not forget our Navy corpsmen, God’s gift to the FMF.

I celebrated the 200th anniversary at the NCO club on Camp Hanson on Okinawa. I was with the 3rd FSR at the time. Semper Fi to all Marines, past and present.

Iron:
I guess I would be one of the "old MARINES" as I served from 1942 through 1946. Third Marine Div, Ninth Marine Reg. Weapons Company, Flamethrower. I really respect these young people that we now have in the Mid East. They are carrying the load for all of us.

Good evening and the very best to you and yours.

Semper Fi
Tommie

Well then, I’ll just have to e-mail a Happy Birthday USMC to my daughter, who currently wears the Marine uni. (She’s in Iraq at the moment.)

I had two great uncles, both of whom were decorated for their service in WWII. One was a Marine, the other a sailor. And of course, even in their old age, they still chided each other about their branch of service.

Even as a young boy, in confidence, the sailor said that he had a trump card which he could use, but rarely did, to get the goat of the Marine. And this he told me:

“Have you ever heard the twangy country song, ‘The Wabash Cannonball’? The music fits perfectly with the lyrics of ‘The Marine Hymn’.

The last time they got into a fist fight over it, they were both in their 70s. One of their wives remarked, “There they go again!”

MEGA DITTOS BUMP for the Corp! God Bless you all.

BTW: Indianapolis had to call in the Marines (Marine) in our Tuesday election.

A retired Marine Lt.Col, Greg Ballard, in typical Marine fashion, came in underfunded, under equipped, and with little to no support from his party establishment; kicked our two term, mega funded, mega backed dim mayor to the curb.

Semper Fi!
