Feds to hold 'sanctuaries' accountable

Sanctuary cities – whether their law enforcement personnel deliberately obstruct federal immigration enforcement or simply ignore such violations when they encounter them – soon could be facing the wrath of the federal government in court, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

Homeland Secretary Michael Chertoff recently told a congressional committee he didn't intend to "tolerate interference" by sanctuary cities that would block companies from participating in such programs as "E-Verify," which allows workers' IDs to be checked before hiring.

"I intend to take as vigorous legal actions as the law allows to prevent that from happening, prevent that kind of interference," he told Congress.

Within days, the first fruits of that promised were revealed, with a lawsuit against the state of Illinois over a legislative proposal signed into law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

According to published reports Illinois is "complicating" efforts by federal agents with a state law that virtually blocks corporations from participating in the program that was set up to verify if new employees have legal standing to work in the United States.

"The state of Illinois has now made it illegal to comply with federal law," Chertoff told reporters when the action was filed. "That's not acceptable as a matter of the Constitution."

Illinois already had become famous among sanctuary supporters, since one of the higher profile cases in recent months involved Elvira Arellano, who came into the United States illegally, was deported, returned, and when facing another deportation took refuge in Adalberto United Methodist Church in Chicago.

She remained there for months before traveling to California where she was arrested and deported from Los Angeles.

Put a 5 o’clock shadow on Susan Collins... and that sums up Huckabee politically.

Okay Sec. 'Jerkoff' please make my day. Sue the idiots please AND cut off all Federal Money (aka; ours) to IL and CHICAGO.

'My' ijit gov, Blago, has the state near bankrupt and Chicago - they need state money just to breath - cut off every stinking dime. PLEASE.

Blago's hated by most now, even fellow RATS. This would bring people, excuse me... 'citizens', to the streets with pitchforks and torches. It would also get the Recall Bill (IL's first) passed, and Veto proof, ASAP.

“Talk IS cheap... but other than Hunter, Thompson and Romney... NO OTHER REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES give a damn about the illegal invasion.”

I believe Tom Tancredo would do a much better job than Thompson or Romney.

“Wonder why Chertoff decided that illegal immigration for “economic” reasons was important in the last 90 days or so. Just a couple of months ago, he was on a talk show and said that ICE didn’t have the resources (money, men) to chase those with no other illegal acts.”

He STILL hasn’t done Jack-chit about anything other than bump his gums....

Tancredo is a one-issue candidate. I’ve heard/seen him in many interviews... and he is not presidential timber.

I wouldn’t trust Chertoff half as far as I could throw his skinny carcass.
Don’t hold your breath waiting, boys and girls.

about time, but it took them this dammed long to do something?

Have they really done anything? The federal government could close the borders to illegals but they haven't and apparently don't intend to do anything in that regard. They have raided employers of "undocumented" workers and arrested a few hundred of the millions employed. They have made statements about getting tough but actions are few. I believe Bush and company are still holding to the open border/amnesty plan but making gestures to quiet the unruly masses.

Fed Funds should be withheld pending resolution. An injunction to restore funds pending litigation should be appealed and the funds withheld during the time the matter is in court.

You should visit Hope, Arkansas. It is starting to have a real south of the border look. That would open your eyes. Tyson Foods and Walmart really like him and his immigration policies. John Tyson, Tyson Foods CEO and Walmart heir, Jim Walton have given him money. There is even a new Mexican Consulate in Little Rock.

Other private replies seem to support the idea that Huckabee is pro-illegal immigration..... not a position I can support. Sad, really, I like most of his other positions.

I really wish he had stood up for the people of Arkansas instead selling us out. I think the story of Judas betraying Jesus has some parallels. I would imagine he has been paid a lot more than 30 pieces of Silver. Clinton was bad enough and now we have the Huckster.

DCP, last week, in response to the question how much do you pay your illegals you said $30/hr, then laughed.

Pushed on it you changed your story to say that you use a third party, one whom you've described in the past as hiring illegals.

Either way, you are breaking the law....

"An employer has constructive knowledge that an employee is an illegal unauthorized worker if a reasonable person would infer it from the facts. Constructive knowledge constituting a violation of federal law has been found where (1) the I-9 employment eligibility form has not been properly completed, including supporting documentation, (2) the employer has learned from other individuals, media reports, or any source of information available to the employer that the alien is unauthorized to work, or (3) the employer acts with reckless disregard for the legal consequences of permitting a third party to provide or introduce an illegal alien into the employer's work force."

Breaking the law to save a few bucks enabling illegals to stay here...just doing the job real patriots won't.

It’s enough just to use your own words to expose you for the profiteer you are, well, that and the private messages I get from freepers who see you the same way but are less vocal.

Good one for the AFIRE ping list.

It warms my heart to see RICO being mentioned before I even post.

Strange you would mention xenophobia. What race are the Criminal Illegal Aliens?. You are right about us being bigots.
I live in the United States of America. If I wanted to live in mexico, I would try to relocate there instead of trying to change this country into some third world hell-hole.
