Race remains a wild card in American politics. Candidates such as Mr. Ford, who narrowly lost the Senate race in Tennessee last year, have often come close to election only to find race flaring at the last minute to blunt their momentum.
"Obama knows that just because people are saying one thing doesn't mean they will vote that way...
Sen. Obama's popularity among whites also stirs uneasiness among many blacks. In the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll1, Sen. Obama trails Sen. Clinton among black voters 46% to 37%.
"Obama doesn't really push people to consider what diversity really is," says Alfred DeFreece, a black teacher at Eastern Michigan University, who says many of his white students favor Obama. "He is close enough to what is a tolerated white norm, very much what is palatable and acceptable and good." Mr. DeFreece says he wonders whether Sen. Obama would be able to aggressively push social programs that help blacks in poverty and end discrimination.
...About 75% of whites and 55% of blacks describe black-white relations as "somewhat good or very good," according to a recent Gallup poll. About 75% of whites and 85% of blacks say they support interracial marriage. In the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, 63% of registered voters said they believe voters are prepared to elect a qualified African-American as president, a dramatic increase from 1986 when just 29% said they thought America was ready to elect a black president. In the current poll, just 46% of voters say voters today are ready to elect a qualified Hispanic as president and 38% a qualified Mormon.
Sen. Obama runs stronger among younger voters who are at the forefront of many of these changing attitudes...

When Obama loses the primaries they’ll say it’s due to bigotry. And after all, it’s hard to choose among socialistic junior senators...
Science does not fully understand DNA. Is it conceivable that you have been race conscience programmed in your mothers womb through your DNA.
Ironic, but unsurprising that it’s conservatives who don’t give a damn what sex or color their candidate happens to be while the progressive, enlightened liberals are obsessed with it.
“It does not matter if the cat is black or white, so long as it catches mice.” Deng Xiaoping.
For me, Condi Rice would be a better candidate for the Presidency then Barack Obama.
As afar as mr. Oliver the Reagenism comes to mind:
“If your not a liberal when you are younger, you have no heart, if you are not a conservative when you are older, you have no brain”
Is Obama too racist to admit he is just as much white as he is black? Is he ashamed of being white?
I thought that was something Winston Churchill said.
And then turn at warp speed to the race card when they get criticized, as other politicians get criticized.
You know racism is not what they sell it to be when a man who is half white and half black chooses to be 100% black because it is to his advantage.
I don’t know about that. Mind you, I dislike Harold Ford Jr because he’s liberal.
More than race, although it surely did help along with his last name, but I think his personality is his draw (which works wonders on the dims). He’s as slick a politician as you’ll find. Close you eyes sometimes and you’d think it was a conservative talking (Depending on the situation of course).
Even Ann Coulter likes him (for a dim) and backed him in the Senate race... whatever that’s worth.
Actually, given that about fifty years ago when they surveyed whites re: interracial marriage, 95% disapproved, tremendous progress has been made in a relatively short period of time.
Obama was raised by rich white grandparents after mama failed in two marriages, the second one to a jihadi. Obama's only claim to blackness is his sperm donor. I cannot call someone who disappeared on a two-year old a father. Then, again, I wasn't married to his mother, so maybe he had good reason for bugging out.
Ford differed from the mainstream of his party on one or two issues where the Democratic position was unpopular in Tennessee, but his overall voting record was as liberal as they come, I believe. If Ann Coulter thought it would be better to have him in the Senate instead of a Republican who would vote the right way most of the time, I don’t follow her reasoning...maybe it was pique at a less conservative Republican winning the primary (because two conservatives competed for the more conservative voters).
It could be Churchill, I did think that Ronald Reagen said it though.
Obama is Halfrican American.
If it wasn’t for his sperm donor, it is hard to imagine him as anything more than a ward boss in Chicago.
Forget about your neighbors, it’s a given that is none of your business. The evidentiary test would be your position on your daughter wanting to marry, let’s say, a tribal Afgani, or a native of Toga, for example. What would be your position then?
You forgot Hussiem.
