Flora Brooks, 20 and recently married, read on, not knowing then how much her life was about to change.

"Since he is not, repeat not seriously injured, no further reports will be furnished," the telegram concluded.

Not hard at all when it is the love of your life that you are taking care of. But, I would have to agree that in this day and age, most women would dump him.

I just hate that they never had any children.

After reading this story...I think we need to get the president to give this woman a “Presidential Freedom” medal. I’ve never seen a person more deserving of it....and I’d think that Mr. Bush would personally fly out and give it to her in her living room. I think someone ought to get some media attention on this story...and give this woman something to show the appreciation of a nation.

Yep, but it does sound as if he would have to go to her house. Maybe he could pin a fresh Purple Heart on her husband too.

“To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish ‘till death do us part.”

For this lady, those words have meaning.
