Romney: Executive experience matters

DOVER — Mitt Romney believes his experience as a former governor and an entrepreneur make him the best qualified candidate — Republican or Democratic — to be the next president.

"If you're going to run the largest enterprise in the world, it is helpful to have had some executive experience running something," said Romney during an editorial board meeting at Foster's Daily Democrat Friday morning.

Romney said he has much more experience compared to Democratic front-runner New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama and North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, who he calls "career politicians."

The former Massachusetts governor emphasized he is not running for president "to put another notch in my political career."

Romney said he wants to be president because he wants to make America strong again for his children, grandchildren and future generations of Americans.

He perceives the 2008 presidential election as a pivotal juncture in American history where the outcome may determine whether the country becomes stronger or ends up more like one of the United State's European allies.

Romney was asked how he expected to accomplish this with the divisiveness that permeates politics in Washington.

In response Romney shared an allegory from his wife, Ann.

"Watching Washington today is like watching two guys in a canoe on a fast-moving river heading for a waterfall, and they're not paddling, they're arguing," Romney said.

They won't begin paddling until they are about to go over the falls, he concluded.

Romney said as governor he learned to share credit with Democratic lawmakers, not to attack the opposition and look for common ground. As president, he would apply that same philosophy to build consensus with Congress.

Precious Willard’s “executive experience” in Massachusetts is the epitome of incompetence and how to finally bury a state party. Keep this one man wrecking crew, along with Huckster, Rudy, McNut, and Ron Prawn, the HELL away from the nomination and the White House.

Fred is the ONLY viable Conservative.

Worth repeating. That's my problem with most of the people runnng for President. Most of them have never run anything except their mouths.

Ugh. You post this as means to foster enthusiasm for the guy. For me, all it does is reinforce and validate my contempt for him as a Republican candidate.

George W Bush also had great success dealing with Dems in Texas. DC is very different. It’s poisonous. Consensus between Congress and the WH isn’t possible.
Maybe voters will figure out that pork barrel projects hurt us all more than they help anyone and stop sending the biggest porkers to Congress. And maybe pigs will fly.

Mitt’s personal and family life is the only infallible lie detector. It proves beyond all doubt his conservative credentials.

You have contempt for superior and proven executive experience in a presidential candidate? What conservative principle does that derive from?

It proves beyond all doubt his conservative credentials.

Tell that to the folks in MA that are getting nailed for MANDATORY healthcare insurance via a TAX PENALTY. Mitt's an up and coming socialist.

...but then again the republican party seems to delight in shedding its conservative roots and image.

...like one of the United State's European allies.

Someone cut class the day they taught about the proper use of the apostrophe.

When a RINO has a comment! Mitt: Lets all work with the democrats.......sure has worked for MA. Crash carts were needed from all 50 state taxpayer monies in the tunnel.... Thanks Mitt for destroying the Republican party and the little guys who just happen to love their guns and nascar, etc.. Guess only a NE lib can make it in today’s world. Everyone else needs a crash cart.

I worry about Romney’s experience as a successful businessman. His governorship of Mass. doesn’t help. He is a manager who will manage the affairs of the concern as it is. He will “manage” the war. LBJ and McNamara “managed” their war. So did Nixon.G Bush is “managing” this war. Bush is winning it as he sees it but he doesn’t seem to see Iran as more than a local irritant, much as he speaks about the Iranian nuclear drive. He is winning the peripheral campaign in Iraq. It is as if we had won in North Africa and Sicily then got smug and settled in to bring those countries to democracy without dealing with Europe proper. Think how much harder WWII would have been if we had sat in Sicily and North Africa busily nation-building until Germany felt itself strong enough to come back at us.

Romney: Executive experience matters

I agree with the headline. My experience matters to me. It tells me that Mr. Romney is not conservative. It further tells me that he is a hypocrite, and most importantly, that believing someone who says "trust me - I've changed from what I have been - next time will be different" is the road to ruin.

OK, great. Mitt’s a real live PowerPoint presentation. He’s a master at a flow chart. He conducts every public event like he’s chairman of a board meeting. Facts and figures are at his fingertips.

I keep mentally poking him, to see if he’s real, or a robot. Mr. Perfect In Every Way is too programmed for me. I sense a facade, perhaps self-delusional.

Among other things, see post 12. And I remind you that Bill Gates and my own beloved Dubya each have executive experience, but neither are examples of men who uphold advocate small, decentralized government as the key to solving social and economic ills and increasing prosperity, freedom, and self-determination.

My contempt for Romney derives from my respect for the conservative principle of striving and fighting for small, limited government.
