If she was sleepwalking, I doubt she was in a state of mind to consent to anything, let alone sexual intercourse

The counter to that of course would be:

If she was sleepwalking, I would think that being raped would have caused her to wake up.

The article says she did not wake up during the act. There is more to this then meets the eye, or is given in this article.

It could be another Ambien case. One woman gained something like a 100 pounds raiding the fridge while asleep, and thought all the missing food must be attributable to her teenage sons. She promptly lost it when she stopped taking Ambien and her middle of the night kitchen runs stopped. Another person was damaging walls and injuring a spouse during rages while sleeping — also stopped as soon as the Ambien was stopped. It’s a very weird phenomenon, and false claims are obviously possible, but there have been enough real cases documented that it has to be considered.
