Gee, the smartest woman in the world couldn’t figure out how to be for Spitzer’s illegal plan, after all.

...so she got it killed.

Take this for what it's worth. Someone posted this on Newsday comment board following their article about Elliott's cave in:

Inside Information: I hear that the Governor ceased his proposal at the behest of the Clintons. I heard there was a private conversation between a top official of the Senator's campaign and the Governor. Some say an intermediary was used, and that Former President Clinton was somewhat involved. It was expressed in the clearest language that this was coming from Ms. Clinton herself. Spitzer wanted to wait until Friday's slow weekend news cycle. The campaign countered he had until Thursday to make it go away, citing this week's CNN Democratic Debate. While Senator Clinton is hoping the issue will not be mentioned further, she has been preparing for a possible question in the debate. Her position will echo Governor Spitzer's new sentiment: That this is a "federal" issue. Look for another non-answer answer
