MEXICO CITY: President Felipe Calderon decried Wednesday what he called "the growing harassment" of Mexicans in the United States and said his government will work to counter it by funding a media campaign to show migrant success stories. Mexican officials have expressed concern over a recent wave of immigration raids and a U.S. political climate perceived as anti-migrant. Calderon said U.S. presidential candidates were using migrants as "symbolic hostages..."
"I am especially worried about the growing harassment and frank persecution of Mexicans in the United States in recent days," Calderon said at a meeting of the Mexican government's migrant assistance agency.
He called on U.S. presidential candidates to "stop holding Mexicans in their country as symbolic hostages in their speeches and (campaign) strategies...," apparently referring to the hard line some candidates have taken on the immigration issue...To bolster the image of migrants in the U.S., the Mexican government will launch "direct media campaigns aimed at showing migrant success stories and raise awareness of the many contributions" migrants make to U.S. society, he said.... Calderon also endorsed a project to expand shelters for deported migrants in Mexican border cities...
"We currently face an anti-immigrant wave that is reflected in political, social and legal spheres and that make the everyday life of Mexican migrants much harder," said Luz Robles, another member of Institute of Mexicans Abroad's advisory council. Mexico City officials also announced a program to offer city residents living in the United States low fees for sending money home. As part of the program, the estimated 600,000 Mexico City migrants will also receive free life insurance policies. If they die, the policy will enable their relatives in Mexico to repatriate their remains...

Does he mean illegals?
And what does Mexico do with illegals?
Come legally or don't come at all.
What, is that a joke?
Doesn't he realize that the media here is already doing that for him?
Is the government of Mexico planning to spend money in an effort to influence a US election? Is that OK? I mean, I know China does it all the time, but I thought it was theoretically improper.
Migrant success stories?
How about printing some success stories of Mexicans that actually succeeded in their own country to encourage his people to stop going to America illegally!
Shouldn’t be that hard, right...............??
Will he also hail the states for providing free health care and U.S. government bennies?
Migrants? A telling term.
Send the oil with ‘em and then we’ll talk.
Sucess stories? Like how they sucessfully snuck over the US border or how they sucessfully keep jobs despite having phony IDs?
..of course he realizes that...but this way he has an out to use for taken a few billion peso for himself....those evil gringo's
Yes, pointing the finger at us is a lot easier than admitting the real problem, which is that Mexico is a corrupt, third-world hellhole.
You can’t win this argument with Mexicans, not matter how much logic or common sense is applied. They have been taught tru revisionist history that they are entitled to much of our country. It’s kind of like the Palestinian argument.
If Bush (or any American politican) had any stones they would 1. tell the Mexican leader to STFU and stop trying to agitate the mex in the US. 2. Stay the F out of US politics. 3. Call for an immediate end to all US aid to mex. 4. Call for an acceleration in BUILDING THE FENCE.
If the illegals are just passing through on their way to Los Estados Unidos...not much. But if they're intending to stay in the paradise that is Mexico rumor has it that police/soldiers kill them.
Shell Mexico City like Teddy Roosevelt would.
Just like Vicente Fox before him Calderon is nothing but a PIMP. They think of their citizens as whores. Send them to the US to work and then expect a cut to sustain their corrupt government. What a POS.
Or even better, like George Patton would. Or like Winfield Scott did!
