Canada court: AWOL U.S. soldiers not refugees
MSNBC ^

The Supreme Court of Canada on Thursday refused to hear an appeal by two U.S. military deserters who sought refuge in the country to avoid deployment to Iraq, a conflict they argued is “immoral and illegal.”

The announcement ends a bid by American soldiers Jeremy Hinzman and Brandon Hughey, the plaintiffs in the case, to win refugee status and opens the way for them to be deported to the United States, where they could face court martial for going AWOL and missing troop movements. It also could lead to deportation of dozens of other American soldiers who have filed formal applications for refugee status.

There is also a poll. 65% of people believe the AWOLs should be deported.

"Book ‘em, Danno...Desertion One."

How ironic is it that they could be given "sanctuary" in the halls of Congress by the Democrats, as they certainly support cut n' run, and would likely support 'run' by itself!

Those arn’t soldiers, they were fraudulent welfare recipients. Soldiers go to war when sent. Welfare recipients say ‘I only volunteered to get paid to fight wars in peace time’. What a bunch of absolute TOOLS.

And it will be an easy charge to prove!

#1 Enlisted in the military.
#2 Absent without leave.
#3 Demonstrated a clear intent to stay permanently away from the military (essential to a charge of desertion).

They’re toast (I hope), and rightly so.

I dare say at least half of them were war protesters from the git-go. The deal is that you join the military, go through training, and then put on your spiffy uniform and march around bloviating about how you have had a change of heart and are now opposed to the war.

A spell of time turning big rocks into smaller rocks will let them demonstrate their dedication to the cause of peace.

What is that ancient saying I learned in the Marines: You take the kings gold, you do the kings bidding!

Without hearing their case...the Canadian court has basically forced the group to go back to the US or just disappear. They can’t leave Canada without some type of passport for another country. I’m guessing they could show up at the North Korean consulate or the Cuban consulate...and get some kind of visa...but seriously...would any idiot do such a thing?

If I were the US military...I’d offer them a simple deal...two years in prison and get them off the front pages of any newspapers. Give them the dishonorable discharge and a simple two year sentence.

Face it....its a volunteer military...if you don’t want to be around....then its your enlistment decision. Obviously, they all screwed up....so do the 3 or 4 years...and leave the service...its that simple.

And also the joy of trying to find a good job while having a dishonorable discharge from the service.

Most universities will hire them, or they could find profitable work as “community activists”.

Prison, usually several years. Keep in mind, these two voluntarily joined. They weren’t drafted. They volunteered then deserted (during wartime). For a desertion charge, it’s important to prove they intended to permanently leave the military. By fighting to stay in Canada, they’ve proven this without a doubt.

A decision to join the military isn’t a screwup. These two are screwups, but serving the country in the military is an honorable decision. Too bad these two dishonored themselves.

Detestation during the time of WAR rates the DEATH PENALTY, after the court martial... Then [IMHO] they should face the firing squad or be hung by the neck until dead!

"It also could lead to deportation of dozens of other American soldiers spineless cowards who have filed formal applications for refugee status.

Lazy freeloaders scamming their fellow American neighbor out of tax money.

What they should do with these leftist scum cowards is force them to pay back every red cent they intentionally scammed from the military, knowing full well they had no intention of full fulfilling their obligations. Then shoot them.

The Canadian court record alone, with statements, affidavits and depositions they would have filed, will seal the convictions in the military courts. It’ll be interesting to see who steps forward to defend them in the US.
