—good casualty ratio and not bad marksmanship by modern standards—a thousand rounds per kill—

Army regiment revealed that it had fired one million rounds, killed 1,028 Taliban and lost nine men in a six-month tour of duty.

Very impressive. Hats off.

Nine men lost for 1,000+ enemy KIA? Wow - I don't think I would compare that to WW2 levels; the Anglians look to have done even better than their previous battle records.

All-volunteer force, excellent training, and equipment improvements make a big difference, but I think the modern British troops still have the same drive and moxie of their grandfathers from WW2.

And while a million rounds might sound a lot, that is actually a much better round/kill ratio than either the UK or the US had in WW2.

A kill ratio of 114 to 1 is good by anyone’s standards, even if it took an inordinate amount of lead to do it.

1,000 kills? You can see why the Taliban are trying their hand in other provinces after getting such a pounding. More to the point, we got some of their higher-ups too, and their resistance is falling into Iraqi-style IED’s and suicide bombers.

A South Afghanistan clip sounds like a good plan also, to differentiate between the Kabul headshed staff and the war going on in the ‘boonies dahn sahf’.

Men of Valor Part II
First Mission

[Inside Basra Palace: Telic 9]

To interpret events in al Basra, context is critical. When we invited the British to join us in this war in 2003, the U.S., with the bulk of troops and assets, was the senior partner. In essence, we were the driver of a bus filled with several dozen partners: Poland, Australia, Japan, Georgia, Korea, Albania and so on. Although several key countries had opted to stay home, no nation stepped up to the task like Great Britain, taking responsibility for southern Iraq. But they could not have not planned for the seemingly precipitous and arbitrary decisions made by the mostly American bus drivers in Washington and Baghdad, who took many turns without consulting an accurate map. Egos and strained competencies only magnified and compounded errors. Nobody paid more for these mistakes than Iraqis and Americans, but the Brits and others have also paid tolls for their seats.......
