London Mayor calls for press to rethink Islam (dhimmi alert)
Religious Intelligence ^ | 16th November 2007

Posted on 11/16/2007 2:35:00 PM PST by ddtorquee

A NEW survey commissioned by the London Mayor has concluded that the media sees no common ground between Islam and the West, and that conflict between them is ‘inevitable’.

The survey commissioned by the Greater London Authority (GLA) and published by London mayor Ken Livingstone this week also suggested that news organizations draw up new codes of conduct to combat negativity about Islam.

The GLA survey included a review of recent opinion polls, study of recent books and articles, a survey of the news in one week, consideration of stories about political correctness, interviews with Muslim journalists, and analysis of a TV documentary, took place between May 1, 2006 and April 30, 2007.

One of the questions asked if the media promote informed debate about the building and maintenance of Britain as a multicultural society. It also asked how community-sensitive is media reporting about multiculturalism and British Muslim identities. But perhaps the central question examined was whether media coverage hinders or promotes mutual understanding.

Other findings in the survey were that Muslims are depicted as a threat to traditional British customs, values and ways of life, alternative worldviews, understandings and opinions are not mentioned or are not given a fair hearing, and facts are frequently distorted, exaggerated or oversimplified.

The study suggests possible recommendations, which consist of:

News organisations should review their coverage of issues and events involving Muslims and Islam, and should consider drawing up codes of professional conduct and style guides about use of terminology,

News organisations should take measures, perhaps within the framework of positive action in equalities legislation, to recruit more journalists of Muslim heritage who can more accurately reflect the views and experiences of Muslim communities

I guess he doesn't think they've been kowtowing sufficiently. Maybe it's the recent spate of coverage about the Saudi oil ticks indicating at least some of the Brit media has grown a pair.

Some people aren't satisfied with burying their own head in the sand, but would like to make sure everyone else's is as well.

No sh*t, Sherlock!!! What does this guy think 9/11, the embassy bombings, the USS Cole, etc. was about?

Didn't need a survey commissioned to prove that conflict was inevitable.

Wrong thinking is punished, right thinking is just as swiftly rewarded. You'll find it an effective combination.

It is almost a demographic certainty that muzzies will dominate all major UK institutions within the next 30 years.

Western civilization will eventually depend entirely on the US to save it from a new Dark Age.

History tells us that every now and then, Islam has to be knocked in the head. The crusades (oooh, how politically incorrect), the expulsion of the Moors from Spain in 1492, the destruction of the Ottoman fleet at Lepanto in 1571, the defeat of the Jihadi Ottomans at Vienna in 1683, the US victory over the Barbary pirates in 1815, and finally the battle of Navarino in 1827, all show how often Islam must be put back into its place.

Now it's time to do so again, and we have to get over the fact that yes, putting the Islamists in their place constitutes, and always has constituted, a religious war. Like it or not, the world is still governed by religion, and it's just a question of which one is best (hint: it ain't Islam).

Have you read "America Alone", by Mark Steyn? You should, because that's his premise behind the book.

I once thought that of all the Western European nations, Britain would "hold out" against Islamization as they did against the Nazis in World War II.

I don't think that any more. Indeed, in the wake of stories like this one, along with all the other anecdotal reports we see coming from the [once] United Kingdom, I now believe that Britain will be among the FIRST nations of Europe to fall to the Muzzies.

They are rewriting the meaning of "appeasement" faster than you can say "Neville Chamberlain".

"Submission": ol' Neville would be proud!

Yeah, I just finished his book. We will soon be alone. That is chilling enough. What is worse, the rat party would have us surrender. If leftist influence saturates many more of our institutions we won’t have a chance.

Actually, you’re pretty much dead-on. Ol’ “Red Ken” is a well known coward. He ‘s scared to death of the muzzies...

No the central question is why the media should be promoting or hindering “mutual understanding” or anything else for that matter. I have an idea, report the news and I will draw my own conclusions. The problem (as they see it) is that despite their best efforts the majority of people have looked at the overwhelming evidence and concluded that there is a problem with Islam.

I now believe that Britain will be among the FIRST nations of Europe to fall to the Muzzies.

It seems like that at the moment, doesn't it? But I'm hoping that the Brits will come around soon and see the light. I think there is still a lot of anger lingering about the 7/7 bombings, and the subsequent terrorist scares.

It's easy for us to forget the British reselience in WWII and their steadfast friendship throughout the Cold War, not to mention their continuing help in the Iraq war. Remember that Britian is the most democratic country in Europe, and what the people want will ultimately prevail.

If I remember correctly, the Brits have passed fairly restrictive laws regarding Islamic terrorism, laws that are possibly more strict that our own laws in the US, and I really doubt that the they will give in.

I worked shoulder to shoulder with Brits when I was in the army and I just can't imagine such fine people allowing themselves to fall to the Muzzies.

You left out a few things:

The balkan war( the one clinton dragged us into on the wrong side)

Somalia vs ethiopia and kenya...eritrea in the mix too.

The battle at the indian port of diu, in the indian ocean...200 muslim galleys against 17 portuguese man-o-war...a slaughter in the year 1509 I believe.

“mutual understanding” = the radical left united with Islamofascists in a temporary tactical alliance

Each thinks they can use the other to destroy capitalism and democracy and then emerge the winner. It’s analogous to when Nazis and Communists collaborated to destroy fledgling democracies and other quasi-independent governments in Germany and Eastern Europe.

The secular left ala “Red Ken” thinks it is convenient to use the Islamofascists as another weapon against humanity. Yet, in the end, radicals like Red Ken will be devoured by the Islamofascists, just as Khomeini’s regime destroyed just about all of the leftists that helped to bring it to power.
