UNITED NATIONS: The United States on Friday renewed criticism of the UN Human Rights Council, arguing it had shown a misplaced focus on Israel while giving a free pass to countries with poor human rights records.

US attacks UN Human Rights Council
Reading the headline, I was hopeful this was a report on the use of our armed forces.
The most brutal regimes on the planet are routinely awarded positions on this so-called human rights council. The U.N. itself is the primary domestic platform from which totalitarians and the enemies of human freedom and dignity gain access to our country and a global platform to spread their propaganda. There is no reason to sponsor, let alone provide a majority of the funding for, such an organization.
The U.N. is hopelessly corrupt and incompetent. They should be defunded and expelled from their foul lair in NYC and from the United States.

Israel may be shaping up as a major campaign issue in 2008.

Just threat the UN we will stop providing funds, and in fact we should do. We should creat a new organization only including democratic countries, of course excluding China and Russia, also those with human rights violation such as S Korea and Turkey.

A few years ago, I saw a cartoon that showed four scenes of things you don’t want certain individuals in charge of.
The first scene showed a fox in charge of a henhouse.
The second scene showed a vampire in charge of a blood bank.
The third scene showed a shark as a beach lifeguard.
The fourth scene showed the UN Human Rights Commission, with seats reserved for Cuba, China, Syria, Sudan, Zimbabwe and Libya.

“France supported the draft, as did Britain and China.”
and
“Joining Israel and the United States in opposing the draft were five other countries, including Australia, Canada and the Pacific island nation of Palau.”
and
“He said he realized the resolution would pass, but held out hope that “at least another few countries - brave and moral countries - will stand by us.”
Guess not many “brave and moral” countries in Europe.

My view is that the UN is beholden to the US, and that the US needs to act like it.

That article is just a smear — calls the US a deadbeat because of Jesse Helms, but attributing the achievement of the objectives to Holbrooke.

sorry. I did not read the article other than to note that it correctly credits (IMO he deserves credit not detraction) Helms with the witholding of US funds for the UN.
Too bad we ever changed that policy.

The story had good info regardless, I guess I came across bitter and angry, which is weird, because I just started my vacation.
We’re not giving as much support to the UN as we used to, or rather, the percentage of the UN budget that we get to pay is lower now. Best part is, the dollar’s value is sinking on world markets, so the money we do pay those parasites is worth less.
