...Giuliani has made the case that while he believes that abortions are wrong, he thinks the ultimate decision of whether to have them should be up to women, and not the government....
It is a position that has confused some people ....
[snip]
One member of the audience, M. Edward Whelan III, the president of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, said he would have liked to hear Mr. Giuliani more explicitly oppose the Roe v. Wade decision, even if he supports abortion rights.
I thought it was a strong statement of the general principles that ought to govern the role of judges, said Mr. Whelan....
Given the mixed signals that Rudy Giuliani has given in the past on abortion, I think its unfortunate that he didnt use this occasion to clarify his understanding of how those principles apply.
People on the other side of the debate are also looking for clarity. Kelli Conlon of Naral Pro-Choice New York, recalled that Mr. Giuliani had put her on his transition team when he was elected mayor and issued proclamations to mark the anniversary of Roe v. Wade. But Ms. Conlon said she was troubled to hear him say that he would appoint justices in the model of Justices Scalia and Thomas. [snip] [Said Conlon] We really feel like, out of the glare of the cameras, we have to sit down with him and his colleagues and ask, which is the real Rudy Giuliani?
[snip]
And he spoke about religion in the public sphere. I cannot figure out where some imperative exists to take the words under God out of the Pledge of Allegiance, or to ban the mention of the 10 amendments in a public square, he said, after discussing the Bill of Rights. Then he corrected himself: The 10 Commandments.

This fella spits into the wind,
Try English. Do you mean "simulate?"
My statement was made in a very sarcastic vain should have indicated it with the obligatory /s
And I agree with Fred the ultimate decision should be made my the mother, however, if she chooses to abort the baby for other than medical reasons, she is wrong.
Great comeback makes your point.
I recall even George Bush stated he didn't think this was the time to overturn Roe vs Wade.
How is this so different than what Rudy has said?
Rooty's campaign is engaged in a VERY dirty game played by remorseless people: the religious cleansing of the Repub party. The "Everything For Us Nothing For You" RINO types are squatting in the Repub party, plotting to kick so/con Repubs to the curb to obliterate all signs of the party's all-important social conservate base.
However, Rooty belatedly discovered he REALLY needs conservatives b/c he's losing in crucial primary/caucus states.
That would explain Giuliani's seemingly contradictory statements.
In Giuliani's irrational power-crazed mindset----US citizens are merely pawns in his depraved power games.
Rooty needs professional help.
He needs to know the US is not a Third World banana republic. US citizens are not subjugated to the self-centered whims of an irrational, power-crazed dictator.
I think you know what I meant......the Emporor has no clothes!
Is anybody gonna hit the RICO statute on illegals? Is there any way you and I can move it?
Give it a break and quit spinning and lying about Thompson.
Look at his record if that small little mind of yours can’t figure this out.
He has voted 100% on all life issues while in the Senate.
Trying to link what he said in 1994 with that statement he made in 2007 is disingenuous at best.
His position now and for almost 10 years is that the states should decide this matter, not that he is okay simply with the mother making the decision.
Once again, if you don’t believe me, look at his voting record.
I do not think that one will ever likely get Giuliani to clarify his position.
Rudy isn’t finessing the issue very well, he’s pissing off everybody.
