NASA Sees Arctic Ocean Circulation Do an About-Face 11.13.07
PASADENA, Calif. – A team of NASA and university scientists has detected an ongoing reversal in Arctic Ocean circulation triggered by atmospheric circulation changes that vary on decade-long time scales. The results suggest not all the large changes seen in Arctic climate in recent years are a result of long-term trends associated with global warming.
The team, led by James Morison of the University of Washington's Polar Science Center Applied Physics Laboratory, Seattle, used data from an Earth-observing satellite and from deep-sea pressure gauges to monitor Arctic Ocean circulation from 2002 to 2006. They measured changes in the weight of columns of Arctic Ocean water, from the surface to the ocean bottom. That weight is influenced by factors such as the height of the ocean's surface, and its salinity. A saltier ocean is heavier and circulates differently than one with less salt.

One more poke at Al Gore ;-)
They are starting to tote the mindset of the mainstream public now.
I applaud this study! This is the kind of science that NASA is known for, that is, apolitical. And, this science is in contrast to recent work by political hacks within NASA; folks with a vested interest in man made causes of global warming or cooling. Still, we have yet to see a systems wide analysis of all the studies and information on climate change. Perhaps the Earth system is too complex with too many micro interactions that reverses the direction of weather and climate change. Notwithstanding the claimed work by committees and other groups such as the UN, and “distinguished” scientists and Nobel Prize winners, there has been no systems wide analysis. Just about all work has been in response to a hidden and not so hidden agenda, and is thus suspect. Especially if the producers of the work have a vested interest in man caused global warming, kind of like the fox guarding the hen house.
Use the correct title (”NASA Sees Arctic Ocean Circulation Do an About-Face”). Failing to do so makes searching more difficult. You can place editorial title comments in parentheses after the *correct* title.

Are ANY of the Arctic changes due to global warming? And does NASA say how much of that “global warming” is due to human energy usage patterns? Have they debunked the argument that this is all a completely natural phenomena?
Looks like a great investment opportunity for those forward-looking enough to figure out how to profit from climate change.
Most excellent. Good post.
Wonder which top NASA official is going to lose their job over letting that fact slip out?
(not all) changes in Arctic are result of global warming
or any
Gore’s next soapbox.... “how we’re making the ocean salt content change”
Save this article for historical interest. If the Democrats get into the White House, watch NASA change its tune.
Maybe that's because they have yet to define their system. I have yet to read a study (pertaining to globalness) that in any way attempts to define the system they are trying to measure or control.
