Parents Ordered to Court for Kids' Shots
The Associated Press ^ | Nov 17, 2007 | MATTHEW BARAKAT

Hundreds of grumbling parents facing a threat of jail lined up at a courthouse Saturday to either prove that their school-age kids already had their required vaccinations or see that the youngsters submitted to the needle.

The get-tough policy in the Washington suburbs of Prince George's County was one of the strongest efforts made by any U.S. school system to ensure its youngsters receive their required immunizations.

“Two months into the school year, school officials realized that more than 2,000 students in the county still didn’t have the vaccinations they were supposed to have before attending class.”

Why were these children allowed to start school?

I would like to point out that the photo of the little girl getting a shot in the article at the link is a stock photo rented from the Corbis photo agency and stuck onto the story— and a very politically correct stock photo—not a real photo of any of the actual parents or children involved.

That’s an important point in my opinion. Thanks for making it.

I’ll bet those on this this thread who are going balistic at the infringement of “Citizen’s Rights”, would change their tune if they could see who was showing up to get shots for their kids and find out what their immigration status was.

Really? I believe it, just wondering how you happened to know that. From the article:

The judge noted the unhappy looks of some of the kids in line waiting for vaccinations. "It's cute. It looks like their parents are dragging them to church," Nichols said.

Why were these children allowed to start school?

Why is that any of your concern?

Because those kids don’t have to meet the same standards that U.S. Citizen’s children do. That would be my guess, but I might be wrong.

They weren't allowed to start school, yet the parents have them enrolled in PG county. That would be part of the problem.

Unless the parent's have been home schooling them, they've had no education at all this year.

What they’re not telling you is that even though it not on the label or list of ingredients, mercury is still in them. Under a certain amount, it is not required to be listed as an ingredient, even though it’s in there. Someone may know the amount, but I don’t.

Actually, it is the concern of every parent who has a child in the public school system.

Because of something called 'herd immunity', a well-vaccinated population is unlikely to be infected with the diseases vaccinated against. Once the unvaccinated group reaches a 'critical mass', then even vaccinated children can get the disease (though usually in a milder form).

A small number of kids can get a free ride because all the others are vaccinated, but when you get up into several thousand unvaccinated kids, the risks increase substantially.

My kids didn't go to public school, but they wouldn't let my kids even register for their private school without a certificate of vaccination.

I'm old enough to remember the days before MMR -- and the kids who were blinded or retarded or killed by measles or rendered sterile by mumps. I'm not quite old enough to remember when they closed the swimming pools because of polio epidemics . . . but EVERYBODY got their kids the polio vaccine because they remembered those days. The dad of a good friend of mine was paralyzed at age 16 by polio.

My pediatrician tells me that the rumor that there's still thimerosal in vaccines is just that . . . a rumor.

He's a good doc and a family friend and he would not lie to me. He's also not stupid and would not have bad info.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm I merely ask...Why were these children allowed to start school? because my children and grandchildren have all needed their shots up-to-date and proven to go to school...

And you slap me down with an unwarranted “Why is that any of your concern?”

is there more to this story? What are you hiding? Are these illegal alien children?

You just answered my question...Thanks

And I was not even thinking ..illegal aliens...

the school systems are not allowed to ask for any ID so shot records would not be asked for either...

but there’s rampart strange diseases raging in the schools right

My daughter babysits for 3 different pediatricians and I have asked each of them about mercury in the vaccines. Each have separately assured me there is none in the modern day vaccines.

However, they do not care for the chicken pox vaccine and do not recommend it because of the rise of chicken pox in colleges and the disastrous results that occur when an adult gets chicken pox. It is their opinion that the vaccine doesn't cover all kids and they prefer the kids just get the chicken pox young.

Unfortunately, even though I took both my girls to 3 different 'chicken pox' parties, they both caught only the very mildest form of the disease and are at great risk for shingles as an adult.
